If, by then, he's on our books in a senior coaching role, I'd say that was a very bad arrangement indeed.

What do you reckon? Or would we have no choice but to get used to that idea as well?

Must be true then. Just like Will Carling's revelation in his book that Leeds offered him £1 million in the early 1990s.

If it is true, it's a good appointment. Long is well respected in the game as a coach and is a Wigan lad. He doesn't seem the idiot he once was. If he does play up, and gets into any form of trouble, I'd expect he'd be out of the door before his feet touched the floor. I trust IL, apart from gelling, he's never made a bad call IMO

So is everyone just ignoring the court case currently hanging over Long's head?

I'd be surprised and disappointed if Wigan are.

Correct. If he fecks up he'll be out the door in a shot like Hock and Gleeson.

Ian Lenagan's track record with regards to appointments has been spot on since he arrived and deserves a little more faith than what people are currently giving him. We have the two most talented u19 halfbacks in the country in Hampshire and Williams. The appointment of Long as a halfback coach is smart. Get him working with them both and accelerate their progress. You'll not find a better group of mentors than Harris, Deacon and Long.
