In that interview alone, he all but invites us to make a good offer. In addition, there is no guarantee it would suit him in Aus. It's gone wrong for at least as many as it's worked out for. He could do with having that drawn to his attention, if he's not already aware of it.
The thing is, if he doesn't make it, he knows he will be able to walk back into any SL side. That's not a criticism of our recruitment policy, just a realistic assessment of the disparity between the two leagues.
I'd be trying to use this situation to our advantage at an earlier stage. Surely a young/fringe player with NRL aspirations would see Wigan as a very attractive option, and may be encouraged to join us for a lower salary than Leeds, Saints etc given how quick the route is into first team then the NRL? Many will find it distasteful, but I think it could be a way to make this work for us.
