Great salient contribution regarding the potential signing of Liam Watts, and our wider recruitment strategy. I'm glad someone pointed out the pertinent fact that Joel Tomkins gives away a lot of penalties, which is clearly at the heart of the debate.

There are some posts (and posters) that I just skip past mate as they offer little to any reasonable debate. For what it’s worth, I think Joel has been very very good so far this season and has well earned the right to be in our 17. As you say, not really the heart of the discussion though!

Agreed, I've been critical of him for trying to play like a halfback, but thought he stood up particularly well in the Warrington game when others struggled. That's what I'm looking for with him really, stepping up to act more like a senior player. Still not totally convinced as I feel he has so much more talent than we get out of him, but a step in the right direction.

Quote from Lee Radford re Watts.

“I would like to wish Liam all the best moving forward and hope he can find some consistency off the field to benefit his career in the future."

wigan fans: don't sign Hardaker, due to my morals i'll stop supporting the club if we sign him.
wigan fans: can't believe wigan aren't in for Watts.

seriously you can't make this up!

watts may well be a big strong player but he is more of a liability than hock would ever be, gives away stupendously crazy amounts of penalties and for every star play has 10 brain farts. and going of what Radford has said, its not just his on field antics that have lead to the decision.

absolutely would not answer any problems wigan (may) have up front.

Don’t pigeon hole 25000 fans into having the same opinion over a signing

It undermines your point. Massively

If you can demonstrate the same people don’t want Hardaker but wanted Watts then you have 1/2 a point though you have written it as if it apppies to all fans. Otherwise all you have said is different people have different opinions.

It does amuse me people on here are getting hot and hairy over peoples opinions the end of the day Wigan weren’t even in for Watts and that’s a worry as it seems to me Wigan are rarely mentioned nowadays when top class players are on the move, and yes Watts has his issues but in my opinion he’s a decent prop.

Re: Rumours and signings v9 : Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:37 am
I don’t recall Watts being done for drug taking, homaphobic abuse or battering a student and I don’t recall him being thrown out of a squad on the eve of a big game (tournament) for his behaviour.

The lad clearly isn’t perfect but unless he’s very good at avoiding being caught, I wouldn’t lump him in with Hardaker Just yet. His onfield discipline is poor and it needs work and off the field he clearly needs to grow up but he looks more of a fit when it comes to the profile of a player you’d take a chance on then Hardaker.

The fact that he plays in a position we desperately need quality in would also be a huge factor in people calls that we should’ve been in for him.
