Well Joel is certainly gone thats for sure. Sam is undecided but i am 100% certain his long term future is not with Wigan RL.

IF i where IL i would be siting down with Sam and offering him a new 2 year deal with an improved salary ( using part of the money from Joels contract) With the understanding he is free to leave at the end of it. I would be happy with that given the current situation.

Sam gets an improved contract and knows he has 2 years to sound out NRL & RU for his best move.

Wigan get 2 more years out of Sam which allows us to plan for the future.

Sam may leave on a free but lets be honest due to the salary cap what could we use his transfer fee money for? IL is not short of a penny or two either.

The worst thing that can happen is that he leaves at the end of next season as both Finch and Tommy are out of contract too. Tommy has already stated he wants to move to OZ and you can bet some OZ clubs will be after Finch what with their new larger salary cap.

Hark back to the late eighties/ early nineties when Wigan were a much bigger club and a much better team than they are now. On occasions we dipped into the lower leagues for talent - Neil Cowie, Martin Hall...etc. It worked then, I'm sure we can find the odd gem now and again like other teams seem to be doing these days.

Exactly. 90% of super league quality players arent just born with the ability its coached. If we get enough lads young enough and get the right coaches/facilities etc there is no reason theres not another truckload of players out there working their way up to the big time.

Same goes for players from lower league clubs, some are just waiting for that break and when they get near the top they kick on and become better and better.

But that makes no sense, if Wigan really want to, we can ensure Sam is here for the next 4 years, he's tied to a contract. Why would we forgo probably the best part of £1mil?

And what make him stay. He then plays god awful with no heart which potentially could cost us games.

If hes expressing that hes thinking of leaving then you can bet your bottom dollar that he is seriously considering it.

Then why would we give up what would be a considerable amount of money? What would be the benefit for Wigan?

Because even with that cash we couldnt find a player with his ability to replace him. So it boils down to alter his contract and guarantee tomkins for 2 years for the sake of 1mil or let him go get 1mil and pray we find a replacement. IF in fact we get offered 1mil for him

But you still couldn't guarantee Tomkins for 2 years?

Your solution to this whole problem of Tomkins wanting to leave is, er, to give him a shorter contract? Makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever.

Yes a shorter contract with a bit of a wage increase for an amount of time he will guarantee to stay for (prob 2 years) rather than pray he stays for 4 years on a lesser contractwhich looks highly unlikely.

The lads are going in no small part down to teh huge pay rises they are being offered dont forget. in 4 years we will no way be able to offer him the wages he will be able to get in RU or NRL FACT

It makes you wonder what kind of money Joel and Sam are on to agree a five year contacts in the first place..
