Not that we're in a position to question other clubs over the salary cap but they must have a hell of a lot of wiggle room to sign two halfbacks mid season

looking forward to seeing all these rumours get put to bed one way or another. Don’t think even the most optimistic fans could stomach another off season of speculation then missing out on a quality transfer target to bring in a championship half last min. I’m still dreaming of a quality half back (or two) coming in but will be glad when something’s announced either way.

Why not eh?

The marquee rule allows us to pay 2 players whatever they want to come to us, so nobody is unrealistic IMO if Lenagan fancies spending £500,000 a year on a player out of his own money.

I think posters below have replied to this.
You have to be realistic with signings. It's not just about money, but goals, status and lifestyle.

I can't even see a future where genuine Aus/SOO player would ditch all on offer over there to play SL.

Exactly. The best we can hope for is a player looking for a last ditch contract to bolster his pension pot or a Barba style player who has been in the poop.

You're definitely right, but are they a bad type of player to look at? Obviously it has to be the right kind of guy i.e a beaten up Matt Scott probably wouldn't be top of the list, but a guy like Cam Smith who has been relatively injury free and is as sharp as ever would be. Would I have gone for Slater - probably not, but I'd definitely have made a play for Cronk.

I do think there's a market / opportunity that we're not tapping into at the moment.

Totally agree. This is why Maloney would be a fantastic acquisition. Still good enough to be leading a SOO side to a thumping win in horrible, (dare I say it) Grand Final conditions. He’d be the best half back in the league by a country mile. I’m stunned there are people on here who wouldn’t want us to get him.

I would love the club to sign him I just don’t think it’ll happen sadly

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

I’d rather have Maloney than Hastings, even if Maloney was more expensive and counted more on the cap.

Not that it would happen but if both signed (along with a decent prop) then it would instantly put some bums on seats.

The vast majority of 'stay-away' supporters are craving some quality in the team.

The same fans who would come running back if Wane was gone with his boring rugby?
