Going off the rails because you’re homesick, down in the dumps, depressed or whatever it may be happens. Is it an excuse for him? It probably is but these things happen in life all the time. I’m not saying he deserves any leeway but that is how it felt at the time. A lad taking risks, doing what he wanted etc because ultimately he didn’t really want to be here anyway.

He won’t be back anyway so it’s irrelevant.

It is the difference between explain and excuse. Personally I would like to know that the lad has sorted himself out and is doing fine.

Frustration over style of play / attendances was a big part as well.

Indeed, he seemed a decent lad in fairness to him. It was a shame what happened because I thought he was a good player, with the potential to really kick on.

I think the way Wane sent his team out to play was perceived to be dull and fans were losing a bit of interest.

I guess we can’t know if that is right given we can’t attend games at the moment as Lam’s Wigan without doubt play a far more entertaining brand of rugby.

Wane is now in the perfect job for him in my opinion. He clearly has a style he likes and will not compromise on it. International rugby is fairly dull and is all about winning. Nobody cares if we win an Ashes series or a World Cup playing dull rugby.

Club rugby is slightly different where we are paying customers and expect to be entertained.

The key to longevity as a coach in Club rugby is play an entertaining brand and win. You do that you have a job for life. Easier said than done and that’s why not many hang around for more than 3-4 years.

I'm always cautious when people talk about entertaining rugby. What's entertaining for one person, isn't entertaining for another.

For me the most entertaining game of last season (& for quite a good while tbh) was the GF. That was a close one. A game of defence and attrition i.e not what you'd go to to define "entertaining rugby", but yet it was.

Personally I don't want to see us chucking it around. I don't want to see offloads. I want to see defence that seems absolutely spiteful at times (like it was with Madge). I want props to run hard & backs with the ability to create space. I want high completion rates, kicks that pin teams back and then bucket loads more of that spiteful defence.

My issue with Wane wasn't his style of rugby, it was with the lack of consistency. We could play like champs, or chumps. In the weekly rounds you never honestly knew if we'd win big, scrape home or lose. Now I can take a loss on the chin, but you have to know that the team is better than you when it happens (see the GF). Losing to London and being out enthused is never acceptable imo.

I remember when I had to move to the other side of the world for work, leaving my family behind. I was extremely home sick. Do you know what I didn’t do? Put a load of illegal narcotics up my nose.

Let’s be honest here. He got caught and tried to come up with the best excuse possible

True but it is the dark side. Having said that, it wouldn't get me to take coke as it wouldn't be strong enough to obliterate the nightmares. Would anyone in their right mind return from anywhere in the world to Parr?
