Exactly, but Bibby, Burgess G, Bullock, Clarke, Hankinson, are hardly the class of signings which Lenagan made when he first bought the club.

Good job we keep producing good young players of our own!

Bibby Grand Finalist last year and had a fantastic season.

Burgess massive signing.

Bullock not a big name but a project that seems to be going well so far.

Clarke not had a chance yet but a player I think he will be an asset going forward.

Hankinson was a player that was being sought after by a number of top SL clubs.

There is a thing called the Salary Cap, it means you can’t go out and buy a team of internationals anymore.

The biggest question mark over any of Lenagans ‘signings’ these past couple of years isn’t over a player IMO.

Are you referring to Lam on this one?

If so I was thinking about this today - imo Lam is a coach in the true definition of the word i.e there's a few players (Powell being the prime example) who have really come on under him. I don't think he's a head coach however. He'd be great in the NRL system as a guy who works with individuals to bring them on, but he's certainly not a manager of side and all that comes with it.

That's a totally different question to the one you posed initially!

I am and you may well be right. I’ve just not seen signs that he’s the man for us. He’s had some tough circumstances to deal with and there’s no doubt about that but in a full season and 8 games I’m yet to watch us play and have a real understanding of what we’re trying to do. He spoke a huge game about attacking rugby when he was introduced but it’s hardly all action stuff. We’re error riddled and our discipline is unbelievably poor. I’m not saying he’s under pressure currently and why would he be? We’re top of the league but how, I’m not so sure. I just hope Lenagan hasn’t rushed in to anything for next year and we will keep our options open. There is time for Lam to nail the job yet and I’d love for him to do that but I don’t think the signs look great.

Maybe, but it still does not escape the fact that the players I have mentioned are hardly a incentive for new supporters to watch games or buy a season ticket.

It is some of the players that Leeds, St Helens, Warrington etc are signing and have been signing in recent seasons that attract new supporters.

But never mind, we will get one of the same standard back in John Bateman for next season.

Spot on.

Some fans will find that incredulous, but like you said we are well into Lam's tenure as Head Coach and this is when we need to be seeing the real improvements, or formations of a game plan. We aren't sadly.

You only need to look at Madge or Holbrook to see the difference a top coach can make to a side. Holbrook, like Lam, recruited a very average squad but not only did he improve them he also got his big signings to perform too. Heck even Ian Watson has done more with less imo.

Like you I really hope IL is doing some proper research into coaching options for next year.
