Either us or he (or both) haven’t got the best out of him. He should be smashing teams to bits with his physical attributes but just doesn’t seem to have the desire or the confidence to do so. I still view him as though he’s 21 and just breaking in to senior rugby because that’s how he plays.

That might either explain his lack of game time or be a result of it. If true then I cannot believe that we do not already have a replacement lined up.

Getting rid of Bullock is a positive move imo. If we can move him, TC and one of either Clarke or Singleton on too - I'll be made up.

Our best two props, imo, are Byrne and Havard. They'll continue to improve and need to be supported by two established players.

Personally I'd love Napa, Jensen and one of either Hill or Burgess (on the right deal).

Jensen is a decent 28 year old lad. From the games I've seen he'd fit right over here. Napa is a better version of Singleton i.e.bit of a sh!thouse and belts people in the tackle. Hill or Burgess (if fit) would be smart signings to add depth/experience.

Agree.

If we can keep him, Havard and Byrne (lose Clark, Clubb and Bullock) and add 1 or 2 new signings I would be happy with that.

Shorrocks, Partington and Smithies can battle for the back row spot(s)

That was my original thinking, but then I can't get away from the thought that he (Singleton) isn't performing.

I'd be more sympathetic if he was our only good prop and was being targeted each week. That would be an excuse and justification, but it isn't the case. He's being outplayed by two kids, who are performing without the extra support Singleton seems to need to hit his best form.

Part of our problems at prop is down to the fact that our experienced guys aren't doing it.

If we add 2 signings to those 3 then he has to perform or he doesn't play. Currently he's a shoe in because we basically don't have anyone else.

I expected him to perform as he did when he joined and I thought he would be a good signing.

He totally transformed our pack last year.

This year though something isn’t clicking. No idea what it is, maybe he’s carrying an injury as they often do but he isn’t contributing like he did in 2020, yet.

Singleton is doing nothing differently to what he was at the back end of last season for me. The stats say he’s doing no differently but he was a fresh face last season and his energy, aggression and general manner of getting in to the scrap lifter everyone. He has a role in this side IMO, especially with so many young forwards around him but if you have a player of his type starting and then a similar player in Partington, you need a couple of props to bash out the metres. Havard is doing his best and Byrne is playing well but Bullock hasn’t had a good season so far and has been under used. To say the prop department needs an overhaul in the off season would be a huge understatement. I felt we needed two even with Bullock here and that’s probably three now.
