Regardless of who gets the 8 and 10 shirt I’d imagine Burgess and Flower will be starting props, Partington Clubb Bullock Bryne Navarette Clark will be fighting for 3 bench spots

Which therefore would surely mean they get the starting shirts. 8 props vying for 4 places? Navarette has to be the first name to go on that list. Throw in Havard who I imagine will make more appearances next season and suddenly Bullock, Byrne and Clubb may well be battling for their futures.

It will be interesting to see who we go with and who gets the #10 and #8 shirts. Looking at that list I wonder is there any room for Wells or Byrne? I haven’t seen much of Wells as I have Byrne but they’re up against some quality. They’re only saving grace is that I’d imagine Clubb/Flower don’t have too long left either at the club or in their career.

Bullock needs a big season for me, he started off very well and impressed a lot of folk but then looked like he slipped away before then getting injured. It could be a make or break season IMO.

Bullock needs a huge pre season as well. He’s excellent at making ground with the ball but his defensive awareness is pretty poor and needs a lot of attention. He looks fatigued a lot of the time in defence and a bit Tautai-esq in that he looks a step behind everyone. If he can sort that though (and considering he’s only been full time for less that 12 months he deserves time) then there’s a hell of a player in there.

Byrne will be going nowhere he is highly rated at Wigan. So was Jack Wells until he broke his foot, I think he could be a dark horse next season.

I can see Harvard and/or Byrne going out on loan next year. I know we have a reserve team to run but that’s still a lot of props unless we move some on.

I know, I rate him too and I wouldn’t want to lose him to another SL club. But we are really overloaded in the Prop department, which is fantastic to see, we always seemed to be lacking in that department until now.

I can’t see Navarette getting a look in in 2020 truthfully. And aside from G Burgess I’m struggling to anticipate who will be our regular starting and sub props.

He’s going to have a task on to get a place in the 17 but that should be a good thing. He’s going to need a big pre season and if he can have that then there’s every chance he could force his way in. You’d imagine George Burgess, Flower and Clubb are nailed on for three prop spots and Partington is probably forcing his way in to a similar position. That leaves Bullock, Clark, Navarrete, Byrne and maybe Havard and Jack Wells as well trying to fight for one place if we run with 5 props in the 17 or if they played Partington or Flower at loose forward. It’s incredible depth we have (I wouldn’t be surprised to see an exit or two yet though) and it should make everyone’s standards in pre season jump up.

Bullock has plenty potential but he needs a very big pre season to impress Lam especially with all the competition for prop places. Needs to cut out all the penalties and improve his defence . Rumour has it (i read this somewhere) that Lam is not impressed with his attitude in training nor his timekeeping . Time will tell .
