Since you’re mentioning evidence Red please provide such re Flower’s risk of paralysis. Or was it just a back spasm as reported?

He was hospitalised for 3 days and couldn’t move. Dr said he was very lucky and the damaged nerves (not back spasm) were very close to the spinal chord and fortunately there was no damage to any vertebrae. Ben said it was far more painful than when he snapped his Achilles and was the worst injury he’s had. He’s up and about now and has just started to walk his pup.

I thought his back had recovered and it was his knee that was keeping him out?

"Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.

I remember watching him in an Academy Grand Final a few years ago and he scored a hat trick. You knew then he was a real handful with his strong quick runs and good footwork.

By all accounts he’s a good lad off the field too

Thought Philbin has been underrated by the rest of SL for a while now but this thread shows that's changing.

Not sure he is GB quality yet but he keeps getting better.

Seems to have a complete disregard for his own well-being, and you love to see that in a prop.

He looks like he's going to break the line every time he takes the ball up, I like him, hopefully Mitch Clark can do that impact job for us next season.

That’s right. I was asked what his back injury was and added on about his knee. Not clear on my part, apologies.

No i didn't. Don't make bullshit up. I said Burke had good hands, So what?

Ben Flower made a comment to somebody in earshot of me about the coach Adrian Lam that was in very bad taste and completely un-professional trying to raise a laugh. So you and bigredwarrior can get down off your high horses.

What exactly does he do that is so good on the pitch? very, very average. There are about 30 Ben Flower's knocking about. Barely plays either. Not enough contribution. You rate him if you want. I don't. That is my opinion and nobody can tell me otherwise.

Thank goodness someone who thinks the same as me, well said ‘Pie- Eyter’ we haven’t missed him much this past 5 weeks

Hopefully Philbin isn’t a flash in the pan because one season doesn’t make a player and I don’t remember his name being mentioned last season

Re: Joe Philbin : Sat Aug 31, 2019 5:38 pm
Flower is a great club prop, i cant understand why some people are attacking him. He is not a stand out flashy player and i wouldnt have him in the GB squad but he is steadily good. He does his job efficiently and to a high standard. No huge runs, no massive hits, just high quality with the ball and without it. With a 1 point lead in the last 10 minutes of a grand final, you would want Flower on the field. You know he would be unlikely to make a mistake or miss a tackle, thats what makes him a good player.
