I mentioned this at the game on Friday. Up until this season, whenever Lockers was out injured, or just off the pitch during a game, we struggled. Struggled badly, in fact and I used to think here we go again, the Andy Farrell syndrome, once he retires we’ll struggle for a few years until we find a suitable leader. The fact that Lockers was out seemed to transfer a sort of doubt to the other players.
It’s great to see now, though, that this is no longer the case. The younger lads like Williams, Powell and Gildart have matured and I think Liam Farrell, whilst not very vocal, leads by example. In Zak, we also have a recognised star in the ranks, he is playing well and has made that transition to being one of the lads. In short, there are plenty of other ‘mini leaders’ on the park.
Lockers is still the main man. I think he will ‘go again’ next season, playing fewer games but remaining the king pin of the team before, hopefully, becoming an integral part of the coaching set up.
Yeah i can see why one of the most respected players in the game with multiple caps, trophies and medals would be utterly useless being involved in and around the team.
On an earlier point about him being phased out. I agree but not strip him of the no.13 shirt. That would be cutting him off not phasing him out.

None of this guarantees he will be any good at coaching, I have no problem with him getting into coaching but he much pay his dues and learn the trade coming up through the ranks rather than being gifted an assistant coaching role on the basis that he is a respected players with many caps, trophies and medals

Learning the trade by coming up through the ranks? You mean like under 19's assistant coach?

He's a Wigan player who has the ability to help us win, which is the goal after all. If he's fit and well, then I'm more than pleased to have him back.

I agree mate. Strange really, fans on here don’t want him to play for us, yet the GB coach still sees him as good enough to captain our national side.
