Navarette : Wed Dec 04, 2019 3:00 am
Will he come good again this year? In 2018 he was playing really well. 2019 he was awful at times. Was he a one season wonder or not?

The guy lacks a hunger to be the best he can be week in week out. He had moments even last year where he was excellent but then followed it up with some dross. I think it was Catalans at home and where he was outstanding but he then turns up a week before the play offs and produces a horror show against Cas, consisting of about 3 knock ons, missed tackles and very few carries/metres. It just about sums him up.

One thing is for sure, if he isn’t playing well next season he ain’t getting in the side. He’s probably about 6th or 7th in line for a place at the minute, so to stand a chance of a game he’ll need to be all over it.

He’s frustrating for me. Some weeks, which are now few and far between, he is outstanding. Makes good yardage, is good in D and shows a real passion and aggressiveness. Others he’s nothing short of powder puff.

He has the potential to be a starting prop IMO, or if not certainly in the top 4 but he just doesn’t show it enough. Whether that’s a lack of desire or something else is a mystery.

I hope he does come good in 2020, I really do - as I do for Clubb but we’ve got some serious talent coming through and his chances are going to be limited very quickly if he doesn’t pick up his game and if that is the case then we ought to be parting ways.

Not good enough for a top 5 club. He should be moved on at the earliest opportunity. The comment above about him not having the hunger required is spot on.

Correct, wasn't impressed when we signed him (Why couldn't he get a game at Catalans) and have been less impressed since. Nowhere near the standard for a club pushing for honours. When the young lads need help, players like Navarette should be carrying the burden bit but with him it's the other way round. The young inexperienced players carry him.

Could it be Lam thats the problem? Under Wane he was great in 2018 but as soon as Lam came in, he went downhill as did many of our forwards. Look at Greenwoods loss of form.

I just get the impression that Lam has not got the imposing nature needed to motivate the forwards like Wane had. This is the reason i proposed bringing in Skerrett. I know you and many didnt like the idea but i really did not see enough aggression in our forwards last year under Lam.

I thought that about Lam but then we’ve had Navarette for a few years and he was similar under Wane. I just think it’s in his nature to be up and down like that to be honest. It’s a great shame though as like I said, I think he could be a fantastic prop.
