This is a joke, right?

Danny Orr was ripping it up at Castleford yet when he came to Wigan he was poor and made no impact. Its not unreasonable to worry if Hastings could suffer the same fate.

He wasn’t ripping it up in any sense of the phrase. He was a decent HB, nothing more nothing less. Comparing Hastings to Orr is quite simply embarrassing.

Playing for GB was his first real big test and IMO he failed. The other week, you was championing Bennett and now you are blaming him for Hastings poor showing? Make your mind up.

His first real test was the GF. He was brilliant in that game. I said WB had moved England on from McNamara. I said he is a proven coach whilst also conceding that his time may well be up as GB and England coach. I certainly did not “champion” him, simply debate your point which was that England hadn’t gone any farther on. That point still stands, after all this is GB and NOT England. I have already said on another thread what I expect, and should, happen post this tour. You’re reading what you want to read. As usual.

And on the topic of usual; you’ve posted another load of drivel.

Hastings has been great in SL so far, hopefully he can replicate his form for Wigan. But I don't think the Enforcer's post is unreasonable - there's always the risk it won't work out as well for him at a new club, particularly when there are higher expectations. A lot will depend on his attitude, how he relates to his teammates (both personally and on the field) and if the coach plays to his strengths. He was poor for GB and I think that sometimes he plays it a little too safe (overly reliant on the inside ball, not enough running of the ball himself and his kicking game lacked variety to say the least).

I'm still holding out hope that we could get Lauchlan Lam in to partner him - he had some great games in the Canterbury Cup last year and as a more explosive line breaker he could be a great foil for Hastings. They've also played together before which helps. French - Lam - Hastings would be very exciting.

Haven’t seen anything of Lachlan Lam other than what has been said so I can’t judge either way. However from what I hear he sounds like he could well be the answer to our HB conundrum.

I concur with one aspect of your point - he’s hardly set the world alight for GB. But I come back at you with who has? All these supposed world class players have been bang average. That doesn’t mean that they’re now bad players. He’ll be a revelation for us, that I am very confident in.

Also to say under no pressure at Salford? That’s way off the mark. The whole club relied on him to perform week in week out. He was their main catalyst and driving force to get them to an unexpected but deserved Grand Final.

He seems to me to be a player that thrives under pressure. And for me he hasn’t been under pressure for GB at any point.

It comes back to a poor tactical set up for the tour by the coach.

Ignore him mate he is an idiot who knows nowt about the game,he's what's known as a poop stirrer

There aren't any halfbacks in the world that would have won those games as the pack has been beaten in every game, not taking the prop and second row off castleford was a big mistake,as much as i like jammer he ain't a loose forward and is positionally constantly being caught out in defence

Any signing is a risk regardless of where they come from, that risk is always heightened and put under scrutiny when they come with a big reputation and wage to match.

I think you have to look at style of player to suit your system.

I’m not sure under Wane he would be the right player for us. Wane like Bennett plays a low risk conservative style similar to Bennett, low risk percentage play. Hastings isn’t going to be able to have the same impact in systems like that.

Lam is clearly a more attack/flair oriented coach and hopefully this will compliment his strengths and allow him to flourish.

There is no such thing as a guaranteed success but like all thinks you have to assess and mitigate risk, Hastings looks a great fit for us.

He has been totally anonymous for GB but I’d argue that is down to the tactics and systems employed, not a lack of ability. Hastings is clearly a quality player, I’d argue his form last year was truely World Class and i’m as confident as I can be he will be a success at Wigan despite the increased pressure and standards set on the GB tour.
