Not at all. Its not unusual for coaches to take into account the form of players at the end of a prior season when picking the starting side of the new season. This is how coaches get the best out of players, by making them earn their starting place if they have become a bit lethargic. It also sends a message to the rest of the team for the rest of the year that if you're not delivering the goods, you will be dropped no matter what your name is.
The form at the end of a previous season means the square root of FA in the run up to the next season. What matters is pre season work rate, fitness, standards, matches, training, dedication, motivation, willingness to improve, teamwork. The coach drives up the standards, gets the players motivated and sets goals to target and achieve both individually and as a team. That’s how coaches get the best out of players by keeping them motivated, interested and playing together.
If a players pre season is poor then they won’t be starting the next season and will find themselves on loan or dropped completely. That’s what sends a message, not dropping someone because they didn’t play too well at the back end of last season.
If you’re seriously suggesting that form at the end of the season counts for anything 5months down the line you literally do not have a clue what you’re talking about.
Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid. Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal. Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.
Is it any wonder we made such a poor start to the season when players are coming in for a full English breakfast every morning during the off season? bacon, sausage, egg, beans?
Creatine? I thought that caused muscles to hold water? So would make the players sluggish? I’m sure Jonh could clear that up.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Most idiotic post ever goes to Grimmy..... The way to restart should be an arm wrestle between a designated player from each side.

Creatine making people sluggish is certainly an original theory, given than a major benefit of it is to increase energy and reduce fatigue. I won't get started on the nutritional value of an egg, the king of food

I’ve used creatine and it certainly didn’t make me sluggish in the gym. Where I’d usually get 6/8 reps out, I could get 8/10 reps out when I was in the maintenance phase. It definitely helped me to gain strength. As for the egg, sausage and bacon, I also have no issues. It’s about creating a high calorie intake if weight gain is the goal and good fats are good for that.
It’s preseason. The club has top quality sports scientists who specialise in creating bespoke plans for elite athletes. Preseason is done in phases and the above would suit a bulking phase. I’d like to bet it wasn’t like that during the endurance phase.

I'd say you're right. Madness for people to question the expertise of the fitness and nutrition staff; it's literally a proven science. Whatever they say will be right.
Following in from BRW/LSOW posts here but creatine is used (and proven) to; - Boost muscle retention (initially water) - Encourage muscle growth - Improve high intensity performances
There are more but those are the most applicable to RL players.
As for eggs/bacon/sausage you can have these not fried you know? Fat cut off the bacon and low fat sausages? As has already been pointed out it’s not a full fry up every morning and the players diet is broken down by dieticians and physicians at the club. I’m 99.999999% certain they don’t need armchair diet experts who did Slimming World for a month to give them tips or advice.
I watched a documentary on something about Russia and it was showing Russian prisoners. All they ate was oats (porridge) and they were all built like Samson with barrel chests and legs and arms like tree trunks. They didnt take a co-q10 before bedtime or have a creatine shake every couple of hours.

That’s all well and good if you’re looking to create bodybuilders. We want athletes that are more than just a block of muscle and can actually run, be athletic and have excellent levels of stamina and fitness.
If the club did it the Russian way, as you seem to be suggesting, they’d lose energy after 10mins and we’d be whipped most weeks.

Good fats aren’t from sausages, whether they be fried, grilled or warmed up between Ian Lenegans thighs.
I’ve thought since Bitcon has gone we don’t look as fit, this diet of bacon and sausage when other athletes are looking at going vegan as a way of improving seems a bit out of date. You only need to look at Hardaker who need to lose some timber to get his speed back but some folk will blindly accept everything must be right because Wigan said so.

I know the people giving advice on what to eat at Wigan, most of it good advice. My point was the article that says they’re having bacon, sausage, egg and beans for breakfast during pre season.
