Some of the increases in social media numbers are incredibly impressive. Sad that its all being led by an ex Wigan employee. Wouldn't it be great if we could get up to these standards?

On a related note any news on season ticket sales?

Whilst I'd agree that Warrington are doing some great stuff I have to say that the level of social media marketing by Toronto Wolfpack is on another level to anything seen in Rugby League in my opinion. Phenomenal stuff which can only be applauded.

Funnily enough I saw that Wigan are advertising to recruit a Marketing Manager this morning. Lots of catching up to do. (Both Warrington & Toronto).

I think you nailed it Nicky.
It's does sound a lazy cop out.
I've no issue with him referring to is as small club either.

As a previous poster said too. The emphasis was in PDRL and not so much Wire Wakey and Leeds as parent clubs. Well produced.

I went to the fans forum a couple of months back and the guy in charge of our marketing spoke about Wires marketing campaigns being used to make waves and to try and get up there with the big boys like Saints, Leeds and Wigan. He said we see ourselves as not needing to be as bold, as noisy etc and that we’re trying to show we’re a leading rugby league brand by doing things with class. I’ll be honest it just sounded lazy, as though he felt our name and the signings we’ve made would just do the job. I’ve seen very little since to change my mind. If we can’t smash out huge numbers of season ticket ‘sales’ with free tickets for under 8’s on the back of the signings we’ve made them somebody isn’t doing their job properly. Maybe I’ll be amazed when they detail the numbers sold but there isn’t much noise at the minute.

I agree. I think we will see an increase in average attendances on last season, but we've taken a steady hit year on year over the last 3-4 seasons and I can't see us getting anywhere close to our 16k peak during the Maguire years.

What was last years average end up?

I think the point he was making that night was that we are the brand they want to be. Wire undoubtedly led the way last year in putting wolfie in the spotlight and creating a topic to discus but lets not forget the world know who we are. I didnt think it was a lazy approach at the time. Lets not forget though that 2020 is a big year for the Warrington club, on the 14th May the celebrate there Sapphire anniversary. An event not to be missed.

I got what he was saying but the way in which he said we sold ourselves is the easy way IMO. The worlds changed, there’s so much more for kids and adults to do with their time then years ago when you could just whack a poster up and say ‘come and watch the famous Wigan Rugby’.

Warrington make noise, stir things up and put peoples noses out of joint at times but the sport needs character, it needs to generate stories and if you manufacture a bit of needle between two sides, that helps sell the games and people want to see them. The game has been watered down so much over the years it’s scary. The rules don’t allow for players like Terry Newton, Adrian Morley, Kelvin Skerrett, Sonny Nickle etc anymore, so you don’t have that natural edge to a game and a club like Wire have got creative.

It’s fantastic that we decided to show our classy side by giving Danny Maguire a bottle of champagne after his last game at the DW and we gave Benny Westwood some sort of picture with ‘Warrior’ written on after his but we can still do all that after a game but make waves before it. We may be a big name in rugby league but outside of that we’re pretty much nothing.

Wigan as a brand sold themselves in the 80s and 90s....
Wake up, that was a generation ago and they know Wigan no more than Warrington or Saint Helens.
You all go one kidding yourselves and fall behind. This new age bus won't wait for you. Get on it or be left at the stop....Warrington and Toronto have already left you

See on Twitter that some of the players have been ringing round ex season ticket holders to encourage more sales. Those are the little extras that we need to get back to where we need to be.

I would say that the days of dome none RL fans in the UK only knowing the name of Wigan, are well and truly over. Smell the custard. Echos eventually petter out to calm, and there are few ripples these days coming from the Pie Dome.

Except the championships they keep winning, usually beating your lot soundly on the way there.

I’m sure your fans would rather swap Wolfies social media profile for a Superleague trophy
