The best super league prop in my mind was Jamie Peacock, even the Aussies were scared of him,i remember when he sorted Willie Mason out in the Great Britain test match.I was always surprised he never went to the NRL as he would have been as big a hit as Morley.Fielden was the last true 80 minute prop forward as they now seem to be programmed to do between 15-25 minutes, maybe George Burgess can do 60 minutes, here's hoping

I’d agree with you there. Both Fielden and Peacock in their pomp were terrifying. Peacock edges it in terms of longevity and consistent form but let’s not forget that although Fielden declined from 06 he was still a tough nut and would be generally one of the first names on the team sheet such was his reliability. You could I suppose also put that down to a poor pack at the time but my opinion is the former.

What utter nonsense. Fielden should never have gone on that tour with his personal circumstances. But it is testament to his character he did have a read

Also Mason got what he deserved massively off JP thats why he bottled it and took it out on Long as he wasnt getting back in that mixer. He also went missing the week before when Kidwell give him it

I read this when it came out last year and what a superb article. It really hammered home and made you realise the actual trauma he was going through and explains why his form, up until 2010 anyway, was “solid enough”. In other words not setting the world alight but not downright awful either, average if you will.

That for me changed my whole opinion on Fielden during that period and why he’ll always be one of the toughest players we’ve ever had at Wigan. At the time I remember thinking and posting on here actually how awful he was, how we should sack him etc etc without a care in the world to what was really going on. Sometimes as fans it’s easy to forget that.

Definitely agree with both the above. Cracking player and bloke, think he is fully deserving of the bit of praise he had for last weeks game too

And yes that test is still my favourite game of all time, and that includes all the bulls wins. Although I am a bit of a traditionalist like that and think country should come first, it broke my heart the mockery they made of the last GB tour

Not sure about that. The last 80 minute prop. Liam Watts does 80 mins and does a very good job of it

We can agree to disagree on that one. Fielden was immense in his pomp, absolutely no doubt about it. Liam Watts along with Luke Thompson has been far and away the best prop in Sl for the last few seasons. Watts has everything us fans have been clamouring for for years. Tough, makes a lot of metres, does long minutes and is a bit of a grub. :D :D Hopefully our new look pack will provide this. Certainly is worth the wait :D :D

Re: Stuart Fielden : Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:07 am
There are no British Prop Forwards playing today including Watts and Thompson or even the Burgess twins who are in the same class as Fielden and Peacock, especially when there were more better opposing players in our league and cup competitions at the time.

Peacock actually started as a Second Row forward at Bradford Bulls before he moved to Prop Forward at the latter end of his career.

Even Wigan in the same era had far better Prop Forwards like Skerrett, Platt, Cowie, O'Connor etc than what we now have today.
