Looking back at Millwards reign as coach, the worst thing he did was get rid of Newton and replace him with Higham. Don't get me wrong Higham was a very good player for us, I'd have loved to have kept him for a few more years but I think getting rid of Newton was his and our downfall. What I don't like is the abuse some players get with smarmy remarks about them, they all played their parts. Guys like Liam Botham are scoffed at because he only played a handful lf games, I rated Botham as a decent 2nd rower. Nathan McAvoy was good for us too, Shane Millard too, Tim Jonkers and Oliver Wilkes did a solid job, Jordan James exceeded all expectations of him, Scott Logan was decent, even Vaeliki turned it on. The 1 player who turned things around was Dobson.
When you look back to that period we let go : Newton, Guisset, Higham, Logan, Wild, Brown, Aspinwall, Robinson, Dobson, Tickle, Melling, Godwin, Sculthorpe who all went on to have solid careers or played a while longer. I think we are a lot better run now.
