St Helens game : Sat Sep 26, 2020 8:20 am
Iv heard some talk about resting the entire first team against Saints. I dont think that's possible - unless of course we call up players outside of our existing squad (are our academy teams even training atm?). We'll likely have to play a handful of players who will start against Leeds so Iv had a crack below.

Hardaker
Bibby
Hankinson
Gildart
Burgess
Hastings
Smith
Bryne
Borough
Flower
Greenwood
Isa
Shorrocks

Clark
Wells
Pearce-Paul
Kilner?

Is there not a ruling as to how many players we can rest? Pretty sure we wouldn't be allowed to just name a bunch of kids

I might be well off but isn’t the side fielded supposed to be competitive at least? In these CV19 times and games coming quick and fast I can’t see the RFL really taking us to task for resting players. But then again it’s the RFL.

I’ve said for a few weeks now that I wouldn’t be too bothered about a loss if we fielded a weakened side but the closer we get to the game the more I’m feeling we just go for it full strength. I know there’s a cup game not long after but a win over the old enemy would do wonders for confidence amongst the side. Plus, and without sounding elitist, Leeds are a poor side. I’d expect half a Wigan team to turn them over to be honest.

A positive for us is it's Leeds v Catalans in mid week, 4th v 5th, you'd think Leeds would have to go for it unless they're putting all their eggs in the challenge cup basket.

It’s a crazy situation really. The league obviously put all their eggs in the ‘crowds back Oct 1st’ basket and loaded the bigger fixtures at the back end of the season but Wigan be Saints a few days before the cup semi weekend is incompetence at its finest. At least one club was pretty much certain to make it that far and now what should be the leagues biggest game so far is going to be a total non event. I am looking forward to seeing her youngsters have a pop but it’s safe to say I’ll be happy if we keep them under 50.

Incompetence has unfortunately become accurate when describing the RFL

Most of those lads are in our full time squad and are not just kids.

Lots have already played first team / sl already so wont be out of place. Just not used to seeing so many of them at once in the same team.

I seem to remember a recent ruling that any member of the senior squad can now be used so there will be wiggle room. I expect to see those who played a bit part against Wakey, like Wells and Clarke as well as lads who need a run out like Byrne, There were so few changes early against Wakefield that a fair few of our starting side will be sitting out on Tuesday. Some posters are still saying Wednesday but I am sure that it is Tuesday.
