I just don't see that it's 'lazy'. Each situation has to be done on a case by case basis. Either you want the guy, or you don't. Whether he's played for Wigan before shouldn't come into it.

I agree about how each situation should be on its own merits, but it obviously isn't in the case of the club with a worrying large number of signings. I can't think of one team in any major sport who re-signs the amount of ex-players that we do. It's an easy, lazy, comfy option.

We need to stop looking backwards and start looking forwards - we've now started to do it with Wane.

Strange that, I thought he'd been very good for 5/6 of those

Oh, sorry, you mean last 20 games
Way to go to sum up a players whole contribution to a club.

Player leaves, certain fans blame said player for everything
Hes been very average this season, after missing pre season/first 8/9 games or so. That probably puts him in the majority then as 90% of the players have been nothing more than average under Lam for 3 years.

My post had nothing to do with his previous seasons, but as soon as he announced he was going to the NRL I suggested that we didn’t pick him as I reckoned his mind would probably be elsewhere. Going by his performances , I think my original post was quite justified

His shoulder is as good as a biscuit now anyway. Salford 2023 beckons.

Has he been any worse than 90% of the team?
Did we have any better options?

I think Gildart is a bit like Bovril. You either like or totally dislike

I’m in the former but as you say his last few seasons have been poor along with many others exacerbated by some long term injuries. I’m not sure the move to Australia has had much impact on his performance I suppose only he knows that.

I think he will struggle but I hope he is a success

IMO he has had his head in Oz all season. It feels like he has been picking and choosing his games, when he has been fit or not (i could be being very unfair on him), but thats how it feels

Good centre, but certainly not been at it this season

with regards to the returning players, i think they all feel that it is a safey net. let them go to Oz, with the comfort blanket of another gig at Wigan if it doesnt work out. It should be based on a case by case basis if and when the player is returning. If Wigan need that position / player, then we should make an attempt to sign them, not just offer them an easy way back over here

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Re: Gildart to NRL - Confirmed : Fri Sep 24, 2021 11:51 am
I've been an avid watcher of the NRL for the past 3 or 4 seasons watching most games, Oliver Gildart will struggle to get into the 1st team because he is not big enough to play centre in the NRL, maybe he will play a few games on the wing but not many. Salford 2023 all day long.

I predicted George Williams would be a hit because he was a half who could tackle, Gildart just won't cut it.

From what I've been told, his injury has been misdiagnosed and not looked after properly. He also didn't get the physio required due to Covid and that set his rehab back quite a bit.
