He was clearly injured last night Gildart. He had the trainers on a couple of times early doors and looked like he was struggling with his movements all game. I’ve been a bit sceptical about his injury problems most of the season but he clearly isn’t right. He’s been a good player for us and has played out his contract, so I’ve no ill feeling towards him. I hope he gets himself sorted fitness wise ready for his stint down under.

Weird that Smith just kept flinging him the ball then.

From what I've been told, his injury has been misdiagnosed and not looked after properly. He also didn't get the physio required due to Covid and that set his rehab back quite a bit.

thats another damning indicment on the club then

if a player isnt fit, stop picking him in the 21 (then 17) man squad for him to drop out or pull up.

i get the physio problem due to covid, but would have expected professional sportsmen to be exempt from those rules. i can accept not being able to get physio for myself as i am an amateur athlete, who gets physio for injury recovery / sports massage get rid of aches and pains, but a professional sportsman may need it for serious injury rehab, which is imacting on their career

So club causing injuries or delays to recoveries is now confirmed to have impacted:

Gildart
Burgess
French
Field

Who else have they caused injuries or delayed recoveries to?

No one was working, not even physios. regardless of occupation. There were a lot more people more deserving of hospital treatment/rehab than a sportsman.

I agree about how each situation should be on its own merits, but it obviously isn't in the case of the club with a worrying large number of signings. I can't think of one team in any major sport who re-signs the amount of ex-players that we do. It's an easy, lazy, comfy option.

We need to stop looking backwards and start looking forwards - we've now started to do it with Wane.

your right, plus it gives the player a safety net, we should start removing it

I thought Chris Brooks does the surgery and why wouldnt we use our own physios for him?

No one was working during lockdown apart from key workers. Wigan's physio isn't a key worker. All staff were furloughed.

just checked support staff and trainers were exempt from lockdown so could stay apart of the club, if the club chose to put them on furlough then IL needs to sack himself

There’s also lots on information on the internet and the ability to do video calls and consultations.

If the Wigan staff were furloughed, surely the club or the player could pay for their own?
