An absolute huge loss imo.

The guy has developed a bit of a national profile with his recent charity efforts. That's now lost, along with his passion and knowledge for the game.

He'll be a success at Leicester and he'll transition into other roles within that sport.

Btw, the finances of RU club sides, on the whole, aren't great https://www.therugbypaper.co.uk/latest-news/32558/a-record-44-4m-in-losses-premiership-club-figures-revealed/

The difference is they encourage their money men to spend and invest. The owner of Bristol Bears (who've just finished top of the league) was welcomed and allowed to spend his cash. Remember what happened to Koucash, we vilified and laughed at him.

You only need to look at our club. Plenty are happy to see us cut our cloth next year and see balancing of the books as a good thing. That approach is a pipedream, especially for any sport outside of football. We'll never get enough revenue in to do that.

RU has a salary cap and had Koukash blatantly cheated it as he did with our salary cap then he they would have probably gone the same way as Saracens and been relegated.

Rich owners can spend money in RL (Simon Moran isn't short of a few bob) they just have to adhere to the cap and not constantly pick fights with the governing body which Koukash didn't understand as he is probably used to getting what he wants.

They have far more money than we do as a sport so the movement will only be one way in the same way nobody left RL in the early 90s to play RU. Not to mention that if you actually do become a success, the International game poops all over ours with 80k sell outs (even when they play a 2nd string against the likes of Fiji, Samoa, Japan) and a regular solid competition.

They have far more debt than we do.

I think it’s a bit of a misconception that Union clubs are the champagne Charlie’s of the rugby code.

You just need to look at the level of the bailouts handed out to see the issues they have.

They certainly have more cash flow but that’s a different matter.

Profile is obviously significantly higher but not sure that would be the case for Sinfield.

It was clear from his parting words he wanted to be closer to the performance side of the game not the administrative side. If he hadn’t managed to get a position coaching by now in League in my opinion he never was going to get one.

Union then becomes the most obvious avenue to take.

Club RU is terrible. They will get more bailouts than our clubs get from the governing body though and I would suspect that TV rights are severely higher especially if they are in the Champions Cup.

The International game would be a huge pull I would suspect for players and coaches.

BTW - find me a sports club that doesn't have debts

He’s certainly got a good standing and high profile in the media and for the right reasons and one of few almost universally recognisable recent ex Rugby League players.
That being said results wise he’s been a pretty big failure in his none playing roles in Rugby League and if he’s managed to get a big money deal in Union then he’s done well imo.
