Great news. I’d have loved a longer term deal for Havard but ultimately we’ve been worried about losing him since before his first team debut, so any new contract is always very very welcome.

Things are building very nicely.

Great news. Havard we expected and are getting big things from him but for me the most impressive is Byrne. I wasn’t sure about him in all honesty but he’s turning into a really dependable and effective front rower. There’s a superb spine being built at the club.

Agreed.

Pre Peet I saw Byrne as a bit of a stop gap until something better came along.

Under the new regime however he has really kicked on to be a very good forward who has earned his place in the match day prop rotation.

Havard is a great extension too. Get the feeling he is going to be going at some point in his career but for now another 2 years will be nicely.

I think there has always been a player in Byrne particularly with his young age for a forward. Covid knocked him for six in more ways than one and he really struggled for a long time to get over it.

Now 100% fit, he is showing his ability.

Whilst Havard signing is bad news for me as a Saints fan, it is good for the game over here that he hasn't gone to the NRL (yet)

More good news, really feels like the club is on an upwards trajectory at the moment and our squad is looking strong going forward.
These are 2 props we could build around going forward, both big units that can put more size on (certainly in Havard case) and not something we have produced many of the last couple of decades for some reason. There will always be the lure of the NRL hanging over their heads, particularly in Havards case but there is nothing we can do about that and we have to make the most out of the while they’re here.

What I was hoping for. These 2 are the cornerstones of what is turning into a very good pack. Havard has been on the NRL radar for too long to not go there at some point but 2 more years is a good compromise. I'd have liked 3 as we have with Byrne but we also have 2 or 3 coming through the Academy who will be ready to step up in the next couple of years so succession planning is looking on point too.

Great news all round recently. Is it too much to hope for French next?
