Neither did the Patriots HTH.

You were allowed to record and take photos of signals from the coaches booth, the Patriots did it from the sidelines which was the only thing they did wrong.

"No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game"

Doesn't read like that to me...

Unless you're wearing a lime green vest for the sideline (if you're the Jets) according to Goodell too, don't forget that bit.

The Saints never did anything that gave them a competitive advantage in the way the Patriots team did - any team can go out and hurt another team's players.

It gave them a far greater competitive advantage. If they injure a player deliberately they are going to be playing against an inferior player on the depth chart. IMO that is far greater than having an awareness of a teams signals given that you still need to go and execute the plays.

Injuries happen but there is a massive difference between hitting somebody with the intention of executing the play and him getting hurt and hitting somebody with the intention of him being carted off.

Not really. The Saints have allegedly played dirty for a couple of years and got away with it - apparently it wasn't there for everyone to see.

It's also hardly punished accordingly if they get to allegedly cheat their way to a SB and will merely be fined money/picks and a few people suspended. Which would they rather have- A) A superbowl a few fines and suspensions B) no fines and no SB. Hardly provides a deterrent.

If you do this you're setting a precedent though. Dirty play is dealt with in a specific way (or at least it's supposed to be). This won't be the first time that players have gone out to deliberately injure another. What do you do in future if you have a few 'dirty' players in the same team and there's a number of incidents of blatant deliberate roughness that has or could have caused injury during the season - do you ban that team from the playoffs as well?

You ban the team if it is as widespread as it seems to be in the Saints case. ie everybody in the organisation knew about it, condoned it, allowed it, participated in it. For example I was just reading an article on PFT about how apparently on the video of the NFC Championship game (I don't know how true this is obviously) after a late/low hit on Favre a Saints player can be heard shouting "Pay me my money!". The Vikings even apparently officially alleged that there was a bounty on Favre in that game which was denied during an investigation by the Saints (lies obviously). The thing is you need proof. There would appear to be proof in this instance that the Saints were cheats.

If it is a few rogue players then again if there is evidence that they deliberately injured players then they should be banned for a minimum of one season. It would be difficult to punish the team unless they knew about it/condoned it/contributed to it.

If you let them get off with just a few fines and a couple of lost draft picks then that is no deterrent to cheating your way to a SB and endangering other playes lives. Think about how much a SB is worth commercially for a team? (especially the Saints given it was around the time of Katrina disaster) for the players? (each got a MINIMUM of $83,000 for winning the SB - many of the top players may have got bonuses for being in the SB). Can any fine/loss of draft picks rectify that?

Just giving them a fine effectively puts a price tag on endangering players lives and winning a SB.

If I was Goodell i'd seriously be considering removing the Lombardi from them.

The Manning and Colts press conference is awful to watch as a Colts fan!

Tears galore, and truly the end of an era.

Manning said "To all Colts fans....I've truly enjoyed being your Quarterback...." well not as much as we've all enjoyed watching him I bet!

Farewell Peyton, and thanks for everything!

Can't be bothered to go over that playoff ban discussion again. Posted my thoughts and am prepared to leave it at that.

TBH Gronk. Belichick could've been caught filming with a big t-shirt on saying "I'm a cheat" with bright red hands and you would proclaim his innocence and blame it all on some major conspiracy to damage the Patriots. The Pats who have Brady, the most popular and marketable player in the league who the NFL changes rule to protect. But yeah it's all about hurting the Patriots and definitely not down to Belichick cheating. I mean they are so innocent the owner and Belichick apologised about Spygate.

Your team got rumbled. Move on.

Oh and I agree with Adam. Knowing what a team is calling is a much bigger advantage than the Saints indiscretions.

As a Titans fan I'll miss the AFC South matchups against Peyton Manning. Wherever he goes I wish him the best. Legend !

Do you mean the Tom Brady amendment to the Carson Palmer rule, which is to protect ALL QB's?

Palmer rule:
The new rule prohibited defenders from hitting a passer at or below the knee unless they are blocked into him.

The Brady amendment added this:
The clarification specifically prohibits a defender on the ground who hasn't been blocked or fouled directly into the quarterback from lunging or diving at the quarterback's lower legs.

Now onto some more myths that people like yourself like to believe:

"the league changed the rules to suit Brady!": False, Bill Polian, then Colts GM and head of the competition committee, after seeing his "greatest offensive unit ever" get shutout against the Patriots in the playoffs (adopting the same style they did against the Rams and just mug the receivers) had the rules changed to what they are today.

"Tom Brady gets all the flags!": False, over the last 2 years Tom Brady has ranked LAST in roughing the passer calls, whilst Michael Vick (who complained about not getting enough RTP flags) came top.

Is there anything else, or do you just like to aimlessly hate the Patriots & Brady?
