Australia launches its bid to host football's 2018 2022 world cup AUSTRALIA has launched its bid to host the 2018 or 2022 soccer World Cup, with the event promising to bring a $3.9 billion bonanza to the nation. Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy declared today at Parliament House that the bid was "realistic" and "achievable". "Hosting the World Cup would provide Australia with an unparalleled opportunity and give Australia a lasting and living legacy for generations to come," Lowy said.
