If a Club imposed a ban on a player when the FA have failed to because of a loophole in their ludicrous rules on what can and can't be punished retrospectively, then fair play to them. I shan't hold my breath for that to happen though.
Has a club ever done that? I can't think of any examples. I think Wigan would have earned a lot of respect if they'd have come out and said they were dropping McManaman for the three games.
The only time I can think of a club actually punishing a player was us with Mutu. But I don't think we were being particular honorable. Basically Mourinho just wanted shut of the druggie fool because he lied to him. I guess Rangers getting rid of the player who was hoaxed might count too, but that was just an excuse to get an expensive under-performing player off the books.
Basically, self-interest rules and there's no one who goes against that. No matter how much nonsense they spout that they put the game first.
