Have Ducati lost patience with Stoner's whining or is it something else ?
According to my mole, Ducati are concerned that Stoner has effectively lost "interest" (if that's the right word) in racing. His fitness is still a concern and his head clearly isn't in the right place.
A couple of weeks ago, the team issued a very defiant press statement insisting that he would be returning at Estoril in a very "move along, nothing to see here" kind of way which, if anything, fanned the flames at bit. I'd expect Ducati to stand by him as much as they can but at the same time, they've got a finite amount of patience.
When you think of the riders they've approached as well, Lorenzo (a reported €13m contract) and Pedrosa - those are riders that few teams can afford to have as their "second" rider. Hayden will be on a decent, if not Rossi-esque amount but could any team in the paddock budget for Casey Stoner and a 'second' rider earning €13m? I doubt it.
Anyhoo, in other news, Ben Spies has signed a two-year contract with Yamaha that will see him race WSB in 2010 and for Tech 3 Yamaha in 2011. For my money, I'd expect that to mean that Tech 3 will run with Edwards + A.N Other for next season (whether A.N Other is Toseland remains to be seen, but I'm a betting man
). In 2011, I'd expect Edwards to hang up his helmet with Spies taking the "American" seat at Tech 3.
