Well, you did state that one of the reasons he failed was because of his negativity then you suggest he should have been replaced by two guys who have shown themselves to be even more conservative, not to mention the huge disparity in terms of success and pedigree between them.

Could be a busy deadline day for Wigan. Looks like Scharner's coming home on a 6-month loan deal, and we're being linked to McGeady, N'Zogbia, Stones, Jefferson Montero and Christian Benitez. Hopefully at least one of those will come off!

Just astonishing. You must be one of those people that deem 4-4-2 as infinitely more positive than 4-3-3, or the type of person that reckoned Downing was a cracking signing because he's Premier League Proven. I would properly bite on stuff like this but I don't think people need it explaining to them.

Scharner will be a decent signing as a CB. Was always his best position. Hopefully McGeady will replace Beausejour. Would love to see Charlie back at the right price. Wasn't Benitez a flop last time he played in the PL?

No, you're right - Benitez did a brilliant job with very limited resources. His signings were all brilliant and magnificently successful. He should still be in the job now.

And I know I shouldn't bite on anything you post too, what with your amply proven supreme tool-ness and all, but what the hey...

...and any fool with half a brain knew that Downing was always going to be an awful signing, as was Carroll. But still nowhere near as bad as persevering with Benitez for so long and then bringing Dalglish back...
