In all honesty, no football side deserves external investment of that size. Every club should be profitable and should be able to compete to the necessary level without all of the investment. It sort of makes the point of competition pointless.
I'd agree with that if it wasnt for the bit about clubs being able to compete at the necessary level without all of the investment. Since the advent of the CL we've seen leagues across Europe effectively becoming closed shops, with wealth and power concentrated among an ever diminishing elite.
I've always said that I'd happily sacrifice City's riches if we could return to the days when a club like Forest could come from nowhere to win the English and European trophies. But that's unlikely to happen and until there is a mechanism for smaller clubs to grow organically, I'm just glad that we've got the money instead of someone else.
