T'was never a red card that today.
At match speed, I thought "He's won the ball clearly, but he went flying in then and don't be surprised to see a red", then he got red carded. When you see the replays, it was clearly a poor call. There was contact - Rodwell's leg/knee followed through into Suarez - but he clearly won the ball. It's questionable whether the tackle was a foul, let alone a red.
As for the game itself, we'll never know what will have happened if 11v11 all game, but the first half was ours and we finished the second half stronger. Downing was absolutely woeful, he should be dropped for that game, whilst Lucas and Adam didn't push forward anywhere near enough when we had the ball. They sat too deep when there was vast space to move forward into.
Still, a decent performance by us, three points in the bag and no injuries/suspensions to take.
Good post, I've taken out the bit about Cahill and Felli for obvious reasons
, agree about Rodwell having seen it again after the match it wasn't a foul for me, a good tackle that. There was the slightest of contact when he'd taken the ball but that was inevitable, there was no need for the rolling round either but that's what we expect now.
First half there was little to choose between us I thought, really good save from Howard from the penalty and Adam's effort just after looked in when he hit it but second half we fell right off didn't create a chance and only had a couple of efforts from Saha and Cahill from outside the box which Reina dealt with easy.
Really sloppy defending for both goals but especially the second we should have been able to deal with both better. Kuyt ducks under the ball and it completely threw Jags and Distin although Distin couldn't get close to Carroll all game, he left him unmarked on a couple of corners today. Some tough games over the next few weeks for us too.

If everything had happened in a role reversal, this is what would have happened:
LFC Fan: Never a sending off ref, Lucas should only have got yellow.
EFC Fan: Don't be stupid, red all day long.
LFC Fan: Ref has had a shocker this half!
EFC Fan: No he's not, he's got everything right. Don talk crap.
LFC Fan: Our fans throwing bottles at Cahill. He deserves it.
EFC Fan: You are scum, should be banned for life.
LFC Fan: That was never a penalty.
EFC Fan: Err, yes it was.
LFC Fan: Ref has robbed us here. He should be sacked, he's bent.
EFC Fan: Nope, he's had a great game. Don't be so bitter.
All swings and roundabouts at the end of the day. One team fans will say the ref got everything right, the other will say they got everything wrong. All part and parcel of the game of football.
Poor effort, even more poor is saying one set of fans would say the ref got everything right - surely not even a Liverpool fan would say Atkinson got the red card right? awful decision, not even a foul but then we've all seen how poor he is, his sending off of Martin Olsson last week was pedantic too.
