This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Re: If you must discuss Union, do it here II : Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:47 pm
This has always been the time of year Leeds needed to pick up some win, while other clubs are having players withdrawn by the national sides.

In previous years they haven't managed to do it, but this year it could be enough to keep them up.

Watched the Sale game yesterday and Hodgson apart they are woefully short of ideas.

The expert on Radio Manchester was of the opinion that should they go down they might never come back up. He predicted crowds would drop off significantly and that the gulf between the top two divisions in union in terms of attendances, sponsorship, television etc. would mean that Sale would have to have a major restructure.

3 out of the bottom 4 are the northern clubs. It wont be long before they expand the division & do away with relegtation to avoid them all slipping in to oblivion. What next - paying tax?

It's even harder to get back up because the top 8 go in a play-off to get promoted.

Bristol are around 50 points clear of 8th place, but still might not go up.

This result is an example of why people don't watch union in Australia.

The result of a dodgy pact to play "running rugby" (ie. an agreement not to tackle each other) in a desperate attempt to get people to come back and watch it...

Transparent. Utterly transparent.

So how come the super 14 average attendences are far superior to the NRL's?

This article was written by a yawnion apologist

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/keep-this-up-and-the-fans-will-return-20100312-q4dp.html

The opening paragraph says it all

The crowd did not come, but at least the tries and points did. So while the NSW Rugby Union bean-counters will have another restless night, knowing that a miserly 16,878 home crowd will affect the bank balance, at least the Waratahs players will be relieved their dwindling spectator base is no longer on their backs for supposedly being boring.

A single Sydney NRL game beats that and there is rather more than NRL club for Sydney. You are clearly talking out of your rear end. "Super" 14 attendance and viewing figures are sliding rapidly backwards in Aus and NZ and now the NRL season has started the contrast will be even more dramatic.
