Apparently we won something in 1966. Did you know that? We won something in 1966? Because they hardly ever mention the year 1966 around tournament time.

Eurovision?

Seriously, Rooney has acted in character. A thick, arrogant, nob-end who thinks he's above the law/any regulations he has to abide by.
And yet, there are people who are queueing up to defend him....the 'best one' being..."Oh, it's Wayne, you get what you see. You wouldn't get the same person if you toned down his aggressive streak"

This oaf has had 9 years in the top division, so he knows what's expected of him, and how he should behave.

Would the England side miss him, who knows. His good England performances sine Euro 2004 can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And, after all, he's not exactly 'shown up' in England's last two tournaments, has he.

My wish (even though I've more chance of having a pooh in the Queen's handbag, than this happening) is that England go into each game with 2 centre forwards, centre forward number one scores a hat-trick in the first game. In the second game, centre forward number number two scores a hat-trick. In the third, they get a couple each. This will then make it impossible for Cappello to pick Rooney.

I bet he still would though.

I think he's the sort of player that you have to play 'just in case'. If Sam Tomkins for example was out of form you would still pick him simply for that moment when he could score from nothing.

The guy is a complete idiot though (I mean Rooney of course before any Wigan haters think I mean Sam ;) )

3 match international ban for Rooney. Glorious news. 8) Won't be missed as according to this forum he is a disgrace/average/not worthy of the shirt etc. Looing forward to Bent and Zamora up front.

Utd's gain!

How foolish do they FA look trying to get the ban reduced after their 3 match ban of Rooney last season.

The difficulty would be keeping him in good condition between the end of the domestic season and the knock out phase (if we get there). He isnt the most naturally fit athlete and we've seen in the past that he doesnt always hit top form immediately after a spell out.

Capello would certainly have to rethink his stated view that he will not feature in any of the warm up games. And that in itself causes a problem if it affects the preparations of those players that will feature in the group games.

Given the paucity of England's other striking options I'd still take him, but that could change if say Welbeck and Struuridge kick on.

Rooney deserves a three match ban. He's completely stupid to have kicked out at the Montenegran player.

I'd still take him too. As said earlier in the thread, if we do manage to get thru the group, can you imagine how fresh he will be and how much he will want to show what he has to make up for.

Either way, it will be all his fault if he goes or not and we don't win it, according to the media and non Man United supporters!!

The ban is fully deserved. What Rooney did was unprovoked, needless, violent, dangerous and downright stupid.

All of this from a player with 73 international caps - the "he's inexperienced" excuse doesn't apply any more. What he did was just the action of a man who is clearly as thick as pig excrement. He should be thankful that it's only three games and that he's still (probably) going to go to Poland.

Who's used the "hes inexperienced" excuse??

I can't believe some of the moral outrage over it all. Footballers are human beings and moments of madness come over them as they do all of us. I'm sure we've all done daft things in the heat of the moment but for most of us they aren't played out in front of millions of people.

Was he stupid? Course he was, no-ones saying he wasn't.
Should he have acted in that way? Of course he shouldn't have and you could tell from his recation that he knew straight away he shouldn't have.
Is he a bit thick? He's known nothing but football since the age of about 12 so yes I'd say he would be a little bit thick, add into that the fact he's scouse and then yes, of course he's thick as pig dung.
Did he deserve a 3 game ban? Yes probably though looking at some previous UEFA bans I think it's a little bit harsh.

Might give him another nice off-season to recharge his batteries for who pay's his wages and who really matter anyway ;-)

Not sure that it will work to United's advantage. He'll spend a month in training but not playing. Then he'll get the extra time off that they all do after a summer tournament resutling in a truncated pre season. He'll probably start next season in the same sort of physical condition that Tevez did this season.
