Why would any next move for Moyes have to be within England?

Wonder if he might consider one of the Old Firm. Guaranteed silverware and European football.

Souness, McLeish, Walter Smith, Lennon, Mowbray, Strachan...

Is Moyes big enough to put himself against those giants of football management?

He'd be better served taking over at a relegation threatened side like Reading and turning them into a long term PL side than he would be going to Scotland. Villa and Spurs were far better choices than Scotland would be. Even Sunderland would be better than Scotland.

Having thought about it a little I do think maybe taking over a side like Sunderland and making them Everton-like PL ever presents would be a big plus for Moyes. I know Moyes gets credit for keeping Everton in the PL every year and often threatening to qualify for Europe, but in many ways Everton have all that in place anyway whoever manages them. I'm not going to check it, but it'll probably be 50 years since they were out of the top division. Any decent manager would keep them up. But if Moyes was to go into a yo-yo club like Sunderland and keep them upper-mid table for a few seasons it would prove that he has the skills and wasn't just reliant on the natural keepupability of the club itself.

But I don't think that progresses Moyes career enough. IMO he needs a Liverpool, a Spurs or a Newcastle to show he can step up. If he had good success at any of those clubs then that could persuade Citeh/United/CFC to hire him. But I'm not seeing any reason one of them would hire him because of his tenure at Everton.

Twice I think Everton have been relegated. Everton have been in the top division since 53-54.

Very strange, I seem to recall them having '125 years of top-flight football' merchandise on sale a few years back. It's not the blue half I usually associate delusion with :D

In 2002/03 we 'celebrated' '100 years' of top flight football...but this was not continuous, it was 100 in total top flight seasons. I'm sure we were the first club to celebrate this but I believe its Arsenal who have never been relegated so surely they had that 'honour' first. The following season we 'celebrated' the clubs 125th anniversary since we were formed.

Poor thats all we have had to celebrate during Moyes' tenure at the club.

Well what do you expect?

When Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City have all been better than Everton at some point (all still are at the moment, City obviously weren't for years), is it reasonable to expect some sort of silverware?

I know that some poorer sides than Everton have won silverware during his years, but I don't think it should be used as a knock on Moyes as there have been many sides on a different level to Everton.

You think Liverpool are better than Everton at the moment? We finished above you last season (did that make us better than you? Hmmm, I'm not so sure) and this season we've only been below you on goal difference and we had a game in hand? FWIW I think you will finish above us this season but I wouldn't say you were better than us just like although we finished above you last season I wouldn't say we were better than you then.

Of the other above sides I have mentioned this before that only Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd, Spurs and Liverpool have won silverwear since we have but have not been relegated/ in the division below since we last won a trophy. So as you say its not as bad as it seems but were just desperate for a trophy.

This season Everton were knocked out of the cups by Leeds United and Wigan Athletic. Pathetic.

Last season they were knocked out by Liverpool and Chelsea. No blame there IMO.

Brentford and Reading. Pathetic.

Birmingham and Tottenham. Spurs acceptable. Brum, poor.

Blackburn and Chelsea. Losing to Blackburn, poor. Losing to Chelsea in the final, pretty decent achievement.

Oldham and Chelsea (semi final). Pathetic, good.

Arsenal and Blackburn. Acceptable. Very poor - they were stuffed at home by Blackburn.

Middlesbrough and Chelsea. Poor, reasonable.

Man United and Arsenal. Understandable.

Fulham and Boro. Poor.

Shrewsbury and Chelsea. WTF??? and fair enough.

When Liverpool are getting rid of a manager who won them a League Cup and an FA Cup Final place. When Chelsea get rid of managers who've recently delivered massive prizes. When Mancini's position is perhaps under pressure despite delivering them the FA Cup and League. When Fergie earned his job at Old Trafford with League Titles and a European trophy, you've just got to ask why, and how, Moyes is ever linked with taking over from Fergie at United.

When Everton have managed to qualify for Europe, most of the time they perform so poorly they shouldn't have even bothered entering.

Moyes is clearly a good manager. He's clearly done a good job with Everton in the league. But Everton are big enough to expect far more than Moyes has delivered in the cups.

Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Tue Mar 26, 2013 11:38 pm
once again england were very sloppy defending set plays. arguably unlucky not to win, but serves hodgson right for not going for the jugular when the second half started. trying to defend a lead for too long nearly had catastrophic circumstances once again. rooney was unlucky with the chip, would've been a brilliant goal had it landed the right side of the post.

watched portugal at tea time and blimey they are shocking for a nation with such a glittered squad. postiga is a bit of a donkey. bit like belgium, they have a solid defence and midfield but not a quality, fox in the box type, centre forward. they will have their work cut out making the tournament. ok, they rattled the bar and made the azeri keeper make a save or two, but the chances they were missing are the type of chances the big nations convert. red card was their saviour.
