What he's saying and I agree with is that Torres was a one season wonder. Let's just leave it at that. He had a great season once. What's he done since? Seriously, what has he done since? Got a big chunky signing on fee from Chelsea. I'd put four or five Premier League strikers ahead of him now.

He was far from a one season wonder. Barring his last season for Liverpool, he performed at an exceptionally high level when he was able to get close to match fit. His goalscoring records at Liverpool are/were outstanding, his last season seems to mar what was an excellent Liverpool career. However, during his last season he was injured, but the problems were more than injury; coaching staff, team mates and his own attitude combined to ruin his final half season with us, but he'd still shown enough to establish himself as a top 3 striker worldwide.

He could still get back there, looking at him for Chelsea, he still looks to have the pace and the movement, it's just a matter of him establishing his touch. His first touch was probably his most inconsistent aspect, if he could have found his touch more consistently he wouldn't have looked so weak for Spain when he played for them. There were times where his touch made him unplayable (just look at some of the goals he'd scored in games), but there were many games where people felt Torres was 'schooled' or 'in X's back pocket', when, in reality, he just suffered from inconsistency in a vital part of his game.

One of the lads (Chelsea fan) said Chelsea are looking at Edinson Cavani? Frightening if true. I don't think he'd perform as well in England as he does in Italy, or he would in Spain, but he'd still be good over here. If you get a minute, try and find a video of the assist he got for Lavezzi's goal t'other day, immense.

Let's face it thought all Torres was is a slightly trendier/sexier version of Michael Owen and that's all. Compare him with any number of other forwards over the past five years and his skillset is relatively limited. That may be hard for Liverpool fans to take about the new glory glory year(s) but it's the way it is.

You're making yourself look a bit of a prat lad. Even given that you've only started posting regularly on this thread since City started winning.

I posted my comments about Torres about three years ago bud and was laughed out of here for suggesting he was a one season wonder. Now it looks I was right all along. Go figure. I'm not saying Torres is rubbish just pointing out that he was never as great as was being alluded to. Perhaps it was before your time on here?

I suppose I should add that I think Suarez has a lot more to his game than Torres ever had.

I don't memorise posts from years ago so I'll go along with what you have said. The only problem with the "one season wonder" comment is that for years before he came to the English game Torres was the hottest striking property in Europe. He then followed this up with, not one but, 3 very strong seasons during which he hit 72 goals in 116 games. Even in his last Liverpool half season he hit 9 in 23 which is hardly a disaster. He's just struggled at Chelsea.

His overall record is extremely impressive and, as the Liverpool fans on here will tell you, I'm not particularly fond of them. But to claim Torres' superb career is a "one season wonder" shows you to be something of a fool. Do "one season wonders" play almost 90 times for Spain before they hit 28?

I might be being a bit flippant but the statements about his game and his limitations still stand or do you think he has more to him than that? I'll stop with the flippancy.

His game is to score goals and his skill set has allowed him to do that throughout his career (apart from the last year). So I don't think he needs to have more to him than that.

Strikers are there to score goals, Torres has done that throughout his career. In his "one season wonder" season what did he do other than scoring? Was he an all round player for one season?

I really don't understand the point your trying to make. Torres is a poor striker because he only scores goals?

Suarez and RvP are certainly the form strikers at the minute. Both are pure quality.
