GORDON STRACHAN is the new name in the frame to become Manchester City manager, writes NEIL CUSTIS.
Strachan and Blackburn boss Mark Hughes are top of the wanted list for those advising Thaksin Shinawatra — the former Thai Prime Minister, whose £108million takeover bid for the Eastlands outfit is the one favoured by the City board.
Celtic chief Strachan, 50, is on a one-year rolling contract at Parkhead so would have no problem leaving the club. He is also understood to be keen on the move back to the Premiership.
Shinawatra’s advisers are desperately trying to steer him away from appointing former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri.
And Strachan — who led Southampton to the 2003 FA Cup final and Celtic to two Scottish titles — is seen as the right man to get the most out of Shinawatra’s promised £50m transfer kitty.
