Can't say I'm convinced by the booking of Joseph on St Nicholas Abbey for Saturday. Colm O'Donoghue has rides at Ascot that afternoon, and surely Seamus Heffernan would be available too. Fallon is up at York, which was a possible outside chance, but he's riding for Cumani so wherever Luca wants him is where he'll be. Smullen would've been my choice, FWIW.

Strange one.

Just topped up same stake again on Famous Name @ 4/7. Don't think Dunboyne Express is going to fulfill what he showed at two and FN has the beating of Jan Vermeer, 6l last time out off same weights. FN has won umpteen similar races on this sort of ground, whereas Prendergast reckons Dunboyne wants ground on the soft side of good, tonights its good to firm.

Small treble that Betfair has thrown up on the football tonight, all at Hills.

Bohemians @ 13/8
Dundee United @ 11/10
St Patricks @ 4/5 (Was Evens).

Just short of 9/1 for the treble.

St Nicholas Abbey wouldn't be my idea of the winner given the soft ground which has come for Workforce now but the price I took of 5/1 is still pretty good value.

Re: Betting Chat : Thu Jul 21, 2011 8:28 pm
Famous Name is probably the most reliable horse outside group one company that you will ever find. If Dick Turpin is kept in training he could follow suit as I can't see him winning a group one, certainly not this year anyway.

Famous Name and Dick Turpin could both probably win numerous group ones if connections were prepared to go travelling. PKA sent Redwood to Canada last year, wonder if he's thought about doing the same with FN? Whereas DT's owner John Manley will seemingly never give up trying to beat Canford again.

Edit, apparently the Weld's are sending Famous Name for a g1 in Germany next Sunday over 10f as the ground should have a decent bit of cut in it. He should win it, as the past three winners are Linngari, Pressing and Lady Jane Digby. They must've had some rain over in Ireland today as, according to going reports, the ground was apparently gd-firm last night.

Nice £40 profit, oh how I love the flat at this time of year.

Unlucky mate, Bohemians own goal ten mins from time to make it 1-1. I feel your pain, had plenty of those myself :(.

Lost a few quid laying tonight, only takes one to f*ck the night up, never mind only small stakes.

Having a tenner on Sajjhaa at York, to prove her Ascot run was all wrong. Down in class here, the Gosden horse likes soft ground and although has a bit to find she was 3rd to Misty For Me in fillies g1 last year and the ground may be what she needs.

Cheers, Frankie. phew.

Rolling it onto Thimaar. Richard Hills puts me off though.

Ransom Note 12/1...3.05 York.

got plenty in his favour, including a course win, the ground coming right for him and a group class winner. Looking at his record after his debut with a break of 5 weeks or more, his record reads, 1,1,1,0,1,8. His 1st duckegg was on soft ground, and being by a fast ground sire, is easily forgiveable. His 2nd was in a group 1 in France against the likes of Goldikova and Byword. He's also 3/3 going left-handed.

Of the others, Twice Over looks to be going backwards. Class is Class needs to go right handed. Dominant I cant rule out, the form of his 3 races this season is stacking up nicely. Elonara Duse is over-rated and her recent raceform is not stacking up. Satapadi is outclassed, and Tazeez is not improving at 7.

Good luck if following.

Did SNA earlier in the week at 15/8.

Now 7/2 and I really don't know why I backed it. I don't fancy it at all.

The booking of OB junior has put me right off. He has stolen a few decent Irish races from the front on the rail but his pace judgment & positional sense when behind horses is still p*ss poor. Very much work in progress.

Re: Betting Chat : Sat Jul 23, 2011 1:42 pm
Oh dear. Russelliana was terrible.

Fancied Dominant but couldn't take him at so short, had £6 on the 11/4 on Twice Over. Go on Tom :D Took him a bit to get going but done it with a bit in hand in the end. Great to see him get another win, has been a real warrior at the top level and winning his first Champion Stakes probably defined his career - had some smart form before then but had also been inconsistent and looked to be losing his way, send him to a few egg and spoon races and then won the Champion at a fancy price, getting the ball rolling for the next couple of years. Henry is the undoubted master at getting horses back on track after a couple of poor runs - Timepiece another recent example. After a poor run at the Curragh last time, write off Midday for next weeks Nassau at your peril.

Get that flag up Henry, there won't be a dry eye at York.
