Well, thoughts on yesterdays King George.
Atjebi needed to set a far better gallop on Debussy surely, it was a crawl. Surely Rewilding is better when he has got a target to aim for, not a bunched up sprint finish. Same for St Nicholas Abbey, wouldn't have suited him either. Workforce and Nathaniel were the only ones that like sitting handy. Nathaniel took up the running from Debussy to give the race a bit of pace and soon had the rest of them off the bridle. Workforce apparently took a bit of a bump off Rewilding turning the corner, which Stoute thinks may have caused him to hang so badly. Might've won by a head had he kept in a straight line, but will struggle to win another G1 now IMO. Proved a shrewd decision to supplement Nathaniel, as he only needed to finish third to pay back his supplement fee.
Interesting why Ballydoyle sent SNA though. If Cape Blanco had taken in the race, at least OB could've called upon Jamie Spencer. Cape Blanco could've stolen that from the front too, IMO, or at least made it very difficult for Nathaniel to pass him, like he ran in last years Irish Champion. Suppose they also would've had Spencer if Fame And Glory had been running but don't think he would've fared any better given how the race panned out. I reckon Await The Dawn would've won though, can't see why they never called him for the race. Loved the 12f and Ascot last time, handled the soft/heavy ground that day so yesterdays slightly drier ground would've been another plus and if he was sent on turning for home like last time could've tanked away with it, as surely the Hardwicke is a better race than the one Nathaniel won.
As for today, heard Cityscape was running, but as expected the odds are tat.
Ground too fast for him to be at his best but has won similar races on good ground before so shouldn't need his optimum underfoot conditions to get in front here. Having a bet but not a massive one, receiving weight off St Moritz too is another bonus. Receiving weight off a horse he is rated a stone better than.
