Personally, I think most of these club suspensions are damage limitation exercises anyway and merely done to try and lessen the ultimate ban because the clubs are seen to take it seriously as well. Everton copped the 3 match ban for Fellani instantly because there was a chance he'd be done for each incident separately.

Cantona was January 1995, United banned him until the end of the season, more than likely costing themselves the title that year. The FA extended it to 8 months. Do you really really think LFC will contemplate banning him for that sort of length of time? no is the word you are looking for

Biting is abhorrent but is it really worth a ban that's worse than one for racism or a malicious tackle?

No, they won't. Because it was nowhere near as serious an offence as Cantona committed.

If that Palace div had invaded the pitch and did the that messed up kick he'd have been banned from football grounds for life and probably been sent down for a short time.

Cantona could have got done far worse than he did. It was lucky it was Palace he pulled that off at because if it had been somewhere more volatile he'd have started a riot.

Man Utd suspended him for the rest of the season simply to limit the extent of what he did get. The FA could have been looking at a year or two had they not had United's 5 month starting ban.

There's no reason for clubs to come up with bans when they know the FA are going to ban them anyway. They do it for PR value and as a limiting exercise.

As I think Saddened said a page or two back, Souness had a it bang on.

It's what you get with him, though. He's a loose cannon, a player renowned for being a completely different beast on the pitch compared to off it. He's admitted he can't contain himself sometimes, but playing along that line is what makes him so good.

He's a bit dim, he allows his temper and emotions to regularly get the better of him, but it's that passion and fire that make him world class, without it he'd just be another Robbie Keane.

If we sold him, we'd be the only ones paying and everybody else would be benefiting from our decision. If the club wants to wash their hands of him and his 'antics', so be it, but it will be a poorer 'sporting' decision than signing Carroll for £35m.

When you are a serial offender, when you've committed the same offence previously, yes.

I think that in Suarez's case the FA have to punish him hard because if they don't the FA could be finding themselves as co-defendents if Suarez injures somebody.

I think the most important thing has been missed, and that is whether or not the FA will investigate what Petr Cech did to Suarez. The video evidence clearly shows that Suarez was fine after getting up from the Ivanovic clinch, but then just as he sees the ref coming over Cech blatantly walks past Suarez, giving Suarez a limp and causing him to double over in pain.

Was anyone amazed by how pathetic the atmosphere was at the crowning tonight? It should have been a party atmosphere, but I bet a good 50% of those there have no idea really whats going on. Sat motionless making no noise at all.

The players notice this as well, one quick walk round and off the pitch with the stands empty by the time they got there. I appreciate that they've won it a few times before, but after last season, you would think they would want to rub it in a little more than that.

Great achievement by United. City have been disappointing but United really are a points machine.
