Does anybody really care about this series?
When the Ashes were on I either had Test Match special on or had the bbc desktop ticker, people at work would be messaging each other when wickets fall etc. None of this stuff goes on when its one day internationals, there are so many that winning or losing one doesn't mean anything, there's always another in a couple of days. Even winning or losing a series doesn't mean anything, I think we went down under a few years back and won a one day tournament but everybody regarded the tour as a disaster.
I'm not one of these stubborn people who refuses to acknowledge one day cricket because its not "real cricket", in the 90s I went to loads of one day finals with Lancashire, I actually thought it was a good set up in the old days when there weren't that many ODIs, you had the Texaco Trophy 3 game series as a warm up to the Tests, that was a good way of getting you into it. But playing a ODI series after the tests have finished.....especially the Ashes....who cares?
Sums it up perfectly for me.
The ODIs are nothing but a damp squid coming after the Ashes Series, at least if it's before the Ashes it gets a bit of excitement going ready for the main event.
