Can someone explain to me in this day and age ..why goalkeepers dive for imaginary penalties?
I know that they think.......''well it's fifty-fifty' and I've watched this guy on video...but why??
I have long been an advocate of 'stand up and see where the ball is going first'
Modern penalty takers know that goalies just dive for the sake of it so often stick it down the middle.
I was telling the Ghana goalkeeper to just stand there, but he wouldn't listen. He would have saved at least two..instead he saved none.
That should be good for someone lecturing on the theory of penalties and probabilities.


What the heck. I knew Ghana would fook up.


I'll supply my own answer:-
Because if he stands there and the ball goes to the side of him out of reach...he won't save it.

Bizzarre isn't it? 2 simple saves if he just stood there and that short one step run up, what was that about? Knew he'd miss, shouting at TV to take a run up. Poor penalty techniques from Ghana all round, anyone who things penalties are luck are silly, they can be very simply if you just stay cool and do what you as a goalie or player know you should.

Uruguay bloke that handled on the line is a hero. Simple as that. Country before himself as he knows he isn't appearing in semi or maybe even final.

Very true, but stuff like that should be a penalty goal, rather than just a penalty. But that opens a whole new can of worms, FIFA have enough on their plate with goal-line technology!

And what happens?
That's right Ghana get a CHANCE through the lottery that is a penalty kick to score the goal the would definatly have got if they hand't of been cheated.
But lets not forget this is the sport that is petrified to join the 21'st centuary so I wont hold out any hope.

Will we ever see a clearer CERTAIN goal again? Yes, I imagine we will - watch it again, it was going to hit his face, hopefully he'll appeal against the red, he didn't deny a goalscoring opportunity.

The shocking decision was the free-kick Ghana got which set up the whole situation, thankfully justice was done.

The problem with having a 'Penalty Goal' is that many of the handballs on or near the goaline are not as clear cut as tonights, so you would still get as many if not more controversial incidents like tonights. The ruls have been in place for over 100 years and do not need changing. A penalty and Dismissial is the correct and right punishment.
