Great win for us today especially leaving Kenny's three biggest signings this summer on the bench Carroll(£35M) Henderson (£20M) and Downing (£20M) aswell as our two leaders not playing. For an apparant bad season we now sit joint fourth after 12 games, which I'd of happily taken at this stage.
Not sure how to view that really. Is it good that Kenny thinks highly of the squad, or is it embarrassing that we can keep a £20m winger on the bench whilst a winger we got on a freebie scores a goal? I'm all for giving new signings time, but we apparently signed English-based players for the immediate impact. Still, a good result in one of the season's toughest fixtures. We really held on at times in that second half but Chelsea's lack of fire power was evident, why aren't they playing Sturridge up the middle?

It can only be a good sign, IMO. It seemed that by his team selection Kenny wanted us to pass the ball around Chelsea and not hoof it up top, hence him not including Carra, Carroll and him starting Bellamy. I thought we were the better team in the first half, with Chelsea being the better team in the second, at the 70th minute, I'd of took a draw without doubt, however I thought the introduction of Henderson was key, as he seemed to stabalise us.
To be honest Rob, I don't blame Kenny for not starting Downing. Yes, he's been playing well for England but he hasn't for us, and he has been far to inconsistent. Bellamy deserved his start today. He just gives us that something extra when he's on the field. I don't know whether it's his: fight, hunger, speed or creativity. I just really enjoy watching him play. Hope he starts next week.
Thought Henderson played pretty well when he came on tbh, Chelsea were in the acendency and then JH came on, bit more energy in closing down, skinned a couple of players, turned the game back in Liverpools direction tbh.
Carroll looked absolutely awful though, got the ball down, then kept trying to dribble with it instead of laying off the simple pass.
Liverpool need to buy a finisher in January, they have decent forward players but if they got a (dare I say it) Hernandez type player, he'd get 20 a season with the creativity of Suarez about.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The result today means that they have more time to bed in and I'm sure they will given time.

I don't think we need a specific finisher, to be honest, there aren't many players lying around that could walk into the prem and score goals galore, if they could, every club would sign them. We just need more quality, we have some top quality players, some good players, some average players and some good prospects, but in terms of real potency up front, we rely mostly on Suarez to make it happen. We desperately need Gerrard back, whilst Bellamy definitely hasn't played enough, I do think we could do with another forward and either another wide player or another midfielder depending on where Henderson will play more.
Great performance from Liverpool. Chelsea need to get rid of Terry, Lampard and Drogba.
Don't agree with the great performance from Liverpool. Two poor performances, they manage to nick the game at the end.
But a performance from us massively short of what's needed. A comprehensive defeat at Old Trafford, and defeats at home to Arsenal and Liverpool. Add on a defeat at QPR and AVB is looking like he's taken on more than he can deal with.
I think Drogba's finished at Chelsea. The purchase of Torres seems to have peed him off and he's sulking now. I think we've handled everything wrong with regard to Torres and Drogba. Drogba should have still been regarded as our top striker and Torres should have been made to earn equal billing. But instead they shared the role and now we've for two useless forwards for the price of Ronaldo.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Getting rid of Mourinho was the dumbest decision in the history of football.

hasn't downing got no goals, and no assists thus far?

Their game changed and improved when Sturridge came off the bench, it also brough Mata and Malouda into the game more as well. Chelsea's best spell was just after they scored, they had a good bit of the ball and had you on the back foot but after that it settled into the game it had been before. I don't think it was as special as Neville was making it out to be though.

What play is that then? being able to attack but limited in defence?

It was, but I don't think AVB is a bad appointment. He's a good manager and his Porto side were immense. In fact, I'd go as far to say his Porto side were better than this Chelsea side, yet they cost a fraction of the amount, which for me points to bigger problems than AVB himself.
It's been said time and time again, but how much longer can Chelsea persist with the same players? Most of them have had their pomp and they've all failed to reach Roman's target - the champions league. For me, Chelsea should look at moving on some players instead of moving on another manager. Ancelotti was a great manager who had a proven record of getting the best from his players, yet he was somehow made to look a mug by the bratty Chelsea players. I think AVB deserves more commitment from the club and they should back him in the market, and that doesn't necessarily mean funds, but letting players go.
