More farcical refereeing in the derby. What did Everton have to do to get anything off him? The goal was one of those annoying incidents where the referee has decided to give a free kick before the corner has even been taken. When there is some jostling the first time, they call the two players over, tick them off, then give a free kick against the attacking team. It's a pre-meditated decision that happens all the time, made into a controversial incident by the fact that Anichebe did absolutely nothing wrong. He can't claim it was given against Fellaini or Distin as he was looking straight at Anichebe.
How Anichebe keeps his temper is beyond me. Liverpool could do what they wanted to him and the ref would ignore it. The one on the corner of the box late on was farcical, he rolls it past Carragher, gets bundled over and the ref waves play on.
I'd have taken a draw before the game and neither side really did enough today. Distin and Jagielka proved themselves the finest centre backs in the Premier League again today.
Never seen a replay of the Anichebe 'no call' in the corner, but on the TV it looked like a full on dive.
With regards to calls, Fellaini must be invisible, elbows everywhere, bumping into everyone without any intent to get the ball. It's even more noticeable when you see Everton try to lump it up to him at every given opportunity. If any Liverpool player was throwing elbows like that there'd be outrage everywhere on here.
Thought the game was crap, thought Everton were dire, thought Daniel Sturridge let us down massively, he was invisible for long spells and indecisive when he was involved. Our midfield continues to be a weak point, only Coutinho seemed to be up for it today and he was quiet by recent standards.

He does. But there is never any intent behind them, they are just flailing about without any real coordination. It's like marking a daddy longlegs, you'll end up with arms everywhere.
You need to get over this idea that Everton are a long ball team. Fellaini doesn't play far enough up the field for that and with the likes of Osman, Pienaar and Mirallas in midfield there has been a lot of very good football played this season. You overloaded your right in defense to counteract the Baines/Pienaar threat, which worked well. But it also meant Liverpool were incredibly slow to get forward on the counter, with Sturridge incapable of holding the ball up. Having players that have an aerial threat as a plan B is a good thing, it's something Liverpool could with. Rodgers should get over his paranoia and pick Andy Carroll next season, you can then have 10 other players pretending to be Barcelona whilst Carroll gets amongst things and holds the ball up. The aerial threat he brings works well against the fancier sides at the top of the table. If you had him it might help you beat the top sides like you beat the basement dwellers.
How do you know there's no intent? You claim Suarez has intent every time he does anything remotely wrong. The way Fellaini throws them about, they aren't accidental, he uses them to shove people away and to create separation when he's being marked. IMO, he isn't bothered where they land, if they break somebody's nose he isn't bothered because he aimlessly throws them towards opponents' faces all the time.
You have some good players but they didn't do anything today. Pienaar was looking for fouls all game. Your tactic every time you got the ball was to launch it to Fellaini or Anichebe to knock down, I don't think I remember seeing you take one free kick short today, nor do I ever recall Fellaini controlling the ball with his feet, it was always his chest or head.

You answered your own question well there, he is doing it to create space, not hurt people. There is only the Shawcross game where he ever did anything wrong and that was under pretty severe provocation. I agree that he needs to be told to watch what he's doing, not just in case he hurts someone, but so he doesn't get sent off. It was good to see Stevie G and Daniel Agger in particular today just ignore the minor bumps from his hands and elbows. Had it been Suarez, he'd have done a triple salco and got him sent off.

I've said on here since Christmas, Everton are suffering from the lack of depth. The first 11 plays every week, the likes of Baines, Osman, Pienaar and Fellaini are never rotated as there is no one to bring in. Liverpool did very well tactically in stopping Everton today. You also have to remember that Everton didn't need to win the game, the draw was far more acceptable to us than Liverpool. It means a win over West Ham and we're 6th.
