Canford retired to stud massive say by Coolmore no doubt.
Guess there will be more people doubting the freak now....
The " sympathetic me", says he was proberley injured during the race, hence him swerving across the course. Something must have hurt him to do such thing. (that's why I wont be backing Workforce nto).
The " cynical me", says it's all down to future breeding costs. Where would he go next? Deauville and Goldikova on softer ground, or Ascot and Frankel again? Every chance he would have lost both races, thus lowering his breeding eminence. Think Coolmore made up their mind when it was announced Frankel would stay in training. If you had a black-type mare, who would you send her to? No brainer to me.
Personally, i'm surprised it's taken a week to find a problem, and announcing an injury, takes some of the gloss off Frankel's performance, and thus, preserves Canford Cliff's reputation at stud. imo, and especially looking at the sectionals for the last 4 furlongs, CC was totally outclassed and Coolmore know it.
A great shame for racing, but that is what Coolmore are all about. I'm getting to the point where I think Coolmore are becoming bad for racing itself.
Anyway, onwards to saturday, and all eyes on a group 1 horse masquerading in a group 3.
