I think some people get the criticism of City mixed up. The defence shouldn't be 'well Barca, Real, Chelsea and United do it, so what's the fuss?', there shouldn't be a defence. Some may view what City are doing as no different to other big clubs, but what City are doing isn't the solution to be competitive with big clubs; the solution is, and always will be, finding a way of capping the biggest club to create an even playing field. The City approach - to outspend without a care - is the biggest example of what we need to stop, problem is; there's far too much money in the sport for anybody to 'police', 'control' and 'cap'. Everything would have to be done at club and player's will, something highly unlikely.
Watched a bit of United tonight with my bird's dad, I didn't see most of the first half and he was saying the commentary were on about a Benfica player that a few big club's looked at, who were they on about? Gaitan? Witsel?
