4:10 at Newmarket . The horse in focus Eagles Peak.

This beautifully bred 3yr old from the Sir Michael Stoute stable is out of High Praise and by Galileo, and is therefore a half brother to Critical Acclaim who won at 1m4fl and is also related to decent 1m3fl winner Sight Unseen, whilst the dam who won between 7f -1m4fl is a half sister to observatory.

Enough of the history.. now to the present. I was first told about this horse in the autumn of last year where I had heard some very decent gallop reports even though he wasn’t working much at that time, so decent in fact I can reveal I actually placed an AP bet for the derby on this horse. I am told he has worked very well with a high class 3yr old from the same stable… will await his performance today before I mention who it is. I am assured this is a future group winner.

So to bring the enthusiasm down today for a bit: as you are probably aware SMS horses don't often win on debut because of a few reasons they won't be fully tuned up but at a decent level, and Ryan Moore won't ask everything of the horse he likes to develop the horse over time. I have been told to expect a very decent run today.. and cards on the table I've placed a nice e/w bet @ 4's on 1/4 odds as Thimaar looks a worthy favourite. So maybe have a bet on him today but make sure you watch this race for the future.

Best of luck for today.

Runs again tomorrow GET ON

Hi All,

Eagle's Peak travelled extremely well on début indicating that he needs further which he receives in this race; either way he tracked Thimaar that day and took the lead 1 furlong out under hands & heels but was pushed out to the line. I've been told he has improved bundles since he's first run and is bouncing at home!!

I know the price is short and the one worry I have which probably others share is his inexperience in a field such as this, but those at home feel he could win a G2. Will appreciate a step up in trip and I've had a very decent bet.. it's getting backed and I advise to get on now.

:D

Good Luck whatever you decide to do.. remember not forcing you to back it

up in grade and down in distance, and what exactly has he beaten in his previous races to go off odds on in his group 1 debut?

Can only beat what you get put up against mate, and he's done it in a rather bloodless fashion. AOB said before the Hardwicke they've always thought a lot of him and gave him as much time as he's needed. Up in grade doesn't really matter, as they reckon this is the level he is capable of. Don't see the drop in trip being a problem either, as he won readily over 10f at Chester and this long home straight will be exactly up his street.

Just not convinced a jockey so inexperienced in such races is the right choice. Should've had O'Donoghue on, or even Fallon.

Think I'll back Await The Dawn now seeing as though I won't be in from work til about an hour before the race, by which point the Tabor coin will probably be down and the odds will be smashed.

Seville lump on job?

He's around 10lb superior to these and has run consistently well in group 1's and has been beaten by the best 3 year olds around and there is nothing of this sort in this. I've gone in, and tempted to go in again big.

Had a nibble at Eagles Peak on advice from this thread as well :thumb:

Singles on:

Eagles Peak 3/1
Seville 11/8
Midday 5/2

Double on first 2 @ 15/2 treble @ 28/1

York 2.30 Fort Bastion @ 12/1 EW

Was looking at Fort Bastion @ 12/1 was thinking was there any reason for its poor show last time so went on google and saw this

Quote:
"On day one, we have Fort Bastion in the G2 Acomb Stakes. Sir Robert Ogden loves having runners at York so this was always the target. He is a maiden taking on 10 previous winners at level weights, but he is a very good maiden, I promise you.

"On his second to 1000 Guineas favourite Maybe in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, Fort Bastion would have a serious chance, and you can forget his last run in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket as the riding instructions must have got lost in transit. Hughesie was banned, so Olivier Peslier rode, and, while I hate blaming jockeys, this was pilot error. Ok, he missed the break, but he never got competitive at any stage, and it was a wasted run. We think that Fort Bastion is a decent horse, and, hopefully, he'll prove that here"

After watching the Fort Bastion run Hannon might have a point.

The race last time where it was well backed the other Hannon runner (Chandlery 14/1) finished 2nd by a neck its since won a Group 2 running to a RPR of 107 its fair to say the Hannon yard must know what they have here in Fort Bastion, last time I followed them on being abit bullish about a horse was Strong Suit so am giving this a chance.
