Hughes had no track record of success. Mancini does. Under hughes they were ambling along, with a manager who had no track record of success, they were right to pre empt he probably wouldn't be successful with them.
Mancini had a track record fo success before city, and has achieved success now at city. If they stick with him for next season and he's allowed to make the required squad adjustments they'll win the title again next season. If they get rid of him they'll get a new manager who'll want to stamp his own authority on the team and they may not win the title back straight away.
This is mancini's first real 'failure' of a season at city. If man united got rid of ferguson after every 'failure' they wouldn't have won nearly as many titles as they have.
