But they felt they could get a superior manager in and they did.

You say that Mancini is a proven manager. Personally I think his record has shown he's not a top level manager.

IMO they are just doing to Mancini what they did to Hughes.

Hughes had no track record of success. Mancini does. Under hughes they were ambling along, with a manager who had no track record of success, they were right to pre empt he probably wouldn't be successful with them.

Mancini had a track record fo success before city, and has achieved success now at city. If they stick with him for next season and he's allowed to make the required squad adjustments they'll win the title again next season. If they get rid of him they'll get a new manager who'll want to stamp his own authority on the team and they may not win the title back straight away.

This is mancini's first real 'failure' of a season at city. If man united got rid of ferguson after every 'failure' they wouldn't have won nearly as many titles as they have.

They want to create a dynasty but they'll never do that by getting rid of managers so often.

Is Mancini's City vision actually any good though? When it's counted this season City have been toothless. As an Everton fan I always look forward to the City game as they are a soulless and heartless side you can roll over with a bit of commitment and little else.

City with Kompany and Yaya Toure look a competent side, but without them the rest look very, very average. The likes of Clichy, Barry, Garcia, Milner and Kolorov aren't CL quality players and Nasri has never really settled into any real form.

If Mancini is sacked, he can have no complaints, he's failed to generate any real consistency this season and bar the odd week here or there after the title was decided, I'd struggle to suggest a time this season when City have ever been at the top of their game.

OK Saddened, we all get that Everton actually perform against one of the big teams, well done and get over it. Mancini is a decent manager, he had the top job in Italy and he won things with them, he came over here and won a league with City when they were written off pretty late in the season. I don't particularly like him, but he isn't this cretin you're making him out to be. Just a manager that I believe is unhappy with his squad and has resorted to tactics that aren't very good to reflect that. IMO, of course.

Mancini didn't get anything like the credit he deserved for City's league and cup wins. He'll always be remembered with a great deal of admiration and gratitude by City fans.

I think it would have been possible for him to recover from City's poor league defense. Plenty of clubs with well respected managers have had a disappointing season the year after a league win. And at this stage City's league record is worse than last year by just 4 additional draws.

His biggest problem obviously was the CL flops, particularly this season. The risk was that if we flopped a 3rd time we'd either be looking for a new manager in December, or he'd effectively be a lame duck until next May. He also didn't make matters easier for himself by constantly falling out with all and sundry. Whilst I'm still a big fan of him, I didn't think his public criticism of players was right. When he first took over, City needed a manager who was prepared to be hard nosed with the players, but it should still have remained behind closed doors.

I'm not sure whether or not Pelligrini is an upgrade on Mancini. But its clear now that Begiristain is the one calling the shots on the football side at City.

Yet again its very disappointing the inept way that City have handled this. I'd hoped the club would have learned lessons from the Hughes fiasco, but apparently not.

City have handled this terribly badly. Shades of Chelsea with Ranieri and Hughes's removal.

Don't really see why Pelligrini is seen as the answer. He's got an inferior record to Mancini.

I am a little worried that Citeh aren't actually going for Pelligrini and they do an Inter and replace Mancini with Mourinho.

I was talking with my dad on the phone about this and he brought up Jose's daughter going to college in London and him having a house in London. That's nonsense to me. London to Manchester will be about an hour and a half by helicopter. How many college girls would actually want their dad around when they're enjoying college life? Think of the house that 5 million would buy in the north west. Compare that to the apartment you'd get in London.

Mancini has won an FA Cup and a league on goal difference. I really don't think that is much to be proud of given the money he has spent.

More than Fergie managed in his first 3-4 years at United, despite being big spenders at the time.

I think fans of teams like Everton can't truly grasp what it's like to compete at the top. You all seem to think every manager should be winning trophies. When you're a team at the top, it's an incredible achievement just to get in the top 4 in this league the way it is at the moment, you don't seem to grasp how hard it is trying to compete on all fronts.

Everton fans used to say Rafa was terrible because he hadn't won the league, they said he should have won the league over managers like Mourinho, Wenger, Fergie and Ancelotti. Tell me, Everton fans, how hard is it competing for a league title and trying to get through the group stages in the CL? How easy is it playing in a group against two of the four CL semi finalists?

I'm not saying Mancini is the best manager in the world, but he took a club with no recent history of success and won major trophies with them. Yes, he spent money, but Chelsea fans will tell you that money doesn't immediately guarantee success, it took a different class of manager for Chelsea to start winning things, it took a different class for Citeh, too, especially when you consider the 'top' sides are stronger now than when Chelsea first got vast investment.

If Mancini gets sacked, so be it, the club will live with their decisions, but he deserves much better treatment than he's received after winning them the league and Cup. Furthermore, he deserves so much more respect from fans.

He's been sacked for not achieving the goals he agreed with the owners. Does he really have any grounds for complaint? He has been given unprecedented backing in terms of finance to assemble the squad he wants. Bar Hart, Kompany, Yaya, Silva and Aguero (Half of which he didn't even sign) you could argue he's not made the best use of that money. They have failed to win any trophies and vitally failed to make an impact on the Champions League. Sure they had a tough group, but their performances this season have been pretty stagnant. They have struggled to break down the smaller sides that they demolished last season and never really got going in the big games.

If you believe the rumours Mancini is also not a very easy person to work with. He is stubborn and argumentative, often rude and always arrogant. It's a shame he didn't get to face Moyes in a Manchester derby, as Moyes despises him and the way he does business. That derby would have been one to watch as a neutral.

Fans of teams for whom coming second is a massive success might see it as harsh, but City clearly have different goals these days and the managers they employ know that. Whoever takes that job will be told Champions League winners in the second season at the latest.
