Forgive me for breaking up the Rafa love-in but.....Chelsea were third when he took over, 4 points behind leaders City, 3 behind Utd, 5 ahead of Arsenal and 7 ahead of Spurs....6 months later he finishes 14 pts beind United (-11 pts), 3 points behind City (+1 point), 2 ahead of Arsenal (-3 pts) and 3 ahead of Spurs (-4 pts).
He also wins the Europa cup with a Champions League team/ squad......yet "all is forgiven Rafa!" Bizarre.
How did Moyes do with his 'Champions League team' when they went into the Uefa cup that year?
Don't think anyone is claiming Rafa overachieved, or even exceeded expectations. But winning a trophy and keeping them in the top 4 in a 'transition season', after joining in the middle of the season when they'd just been KOd from the biggest tournament in the world - the tournament they were defending - in the group stages, is pretty good work. I think after the grief he's took over the past few months, it's pretty nice to get a thank you for maintaining focus and winning them a good cup.
It isn't really a "good cup" though is it, I was embarrassed when Man United had to enter it last season, shocking comp.
The Europa League is a very difficult trophy to win, whether from the start or via the CL. Compared to the domestic cups it involves many more matches, lots of travelling, midweek games. It ought to be far more prestigious to win. Its problem is that its tainted by failure. Teams in at the start, like Spurs, would rather be in the CL. Teams in at the end, like Chelsea, would rather still be in the CL. But it takes some winning.

You were embarrassed because you're a United fan and you went out to a quite pathetic group. If you'd have won it, or reached the final, I guarantee it would have been all 'Bucharest is red' and millions would have travelled to view the game. Cibaman is right, Uefa make the competition look crapper than it is, but it's still a hard one to win and I think any team winning it can be pretty proud of doing so.

What has Moyes got to do with the discussion? We're talking about Chelsea and Benitez. Do you do that in every conversation of life or just football?
Benitez took over a Champions League winning squad who has the chance to win 5 competitions and he won one. Class.
Apart from the FFP fiddle angle, I can't see many benefits. I wouldn't want CFC setting up clubs anywhere else. I also don't understand why Citeh would be said to be doing this, when it would make more sense for the Sheik to just front it himself.

I'm slightly narked at the name, if only as it'll confuse idiots.

So next year the Premier League will have 15 out of 20 teams with a manager entering only his 2nd season at most, and only 2 managers with more than 2 years and 3 months. Alan Pardew the 2nd-longest serving manager behind Wenger. Absolutely nuts situation.
I bet Pardew will also head the betting for the 'sack race', too.

Just don't know why you'd try and underestimate an achievement that's still a solid achievement, especially when you've blown up the reputation of Moyes who's never achieved anything.
He took over a team that had just been KOd from the group stages of the CL, not a CL winner. He took over mid-way through the season, the team were struggling, the squad wasn't his, he was asked to do a bit of dirty work with regards to dropping Terry, he kept them in the CL for the next season and he managed to win the best trophy available to them after the league. As I said, I don't think anybody is saying he's overachieved or had a sublime year, but if you had an interim manager come in and win anything for you, you'd be pretty pleased and would thank them for bringing success to the club.
