I think van Basten's was a bit more controlled. Maxi's was purely just a swing. MvB's goal is easily the greatest volley ever scored though.

For me nothing can touch Van Basten's volley, especially with the original Dutch commentary, but Bergkamp's last minute winner against Argentina in 1998 was a very special moment.

Euro 84 was a strange competiton from an English point of view.....We had failed to qualify, dumped out by a class Denmark side, and so the English media generally ignored the whole thing (this being the time when we didn't really 'do' foreign football or footballers).

The games that went on though were generally top class....France had a truly great line-up and the Danish side continued to look very classy.....The main surprise was that the Germans didn't make the semi's.

Probably the greatest stat though, was Platini's 9 goals in 5 games (!!).....That's some feat and highlights how great a player he was.

To be fair yesterday was probably our worst performance of the season, it lacked everything so it'd be unfair to judge on that. I still think the game against you we got a big break, had Vellios not got the second we wouldn't have won it, we only got the third due to you pushing up and left space for Drenthe to expliot. it was a grind in which we dug deep to win, we haven't done it enough this season.

We probably did get desperate in the stands yesterday but we needed to be to get anything out of the game. The longer it went on the more apparent it became we weren't going to score and everytime we put a ball into the box someone had their arms around Fellaini to try and stop him. They deserve credit for the job they put in, it wasn't pretty but it worked.

From memory Dita's, I think there was some kind of BBC journalists strike on at the time, and there wasn't that much TV coverage aired

Yes, how Robson survived 8 years in the job was nothing short of a miracle....He had some bottle to put up with the grief he got.

Every tournament he led England in (even WC90), he received shocking treatment.....It became obvious that the media thrived on England failing, just so they could tear into Robson, and its something that has continued ever since.

Anybody wanting the England job must need their heads testing.

Suarez up to his usual tricks tonight. He's the only player I know who dives when making runs rather than when in possession.

He should just concentrate on playing some football. I've had him in my fantasy team for weeks and he's not scored at all.

Dempsey shouldn't have even been on to score. How on earth can a side progress when a referee is so blatantly out there to give Fulham as much of a chance as possible. Can't remember seeing a performance that bad in the league for a long time.
