Whelan's a doddering old fool, isn't he?

Part of the time he's bigging Martinez up and trying to tout him to the biggest clubs. Then he's letting Martiez resign, but saying a club will have to pay out the last year of his contract.

For me Whelan should have just STFU, insisted that Martinez still had a contract to fulfill and then just negotiated the best deal with whoever wanted him.

In a way I quite admire Whelan, he is certainly a rapidly dying breed in football. But to go from "He's too good to manage Everton" to "He's made to manage Everton" is amusing. I think he somehow believed Martinez would turn Everton down.

In most ways I admire Whelan. He's achieved great things in his life. I have a massive amount of respect for him. I just think he's betrayed by his mouth every time he talks to a journalist.
