Fulham, Stoke, Norwich, Sunderland and Swansea. Need a manager like Hodgson to get points against these sides. I love the blind faith in Dalglish.
To be honest, mate, Dalglish can't get on there and put the ball in the net, although he'd probably do a better job than Carroll at the moment. We created more than enough to win the game last night and we were never in danger of losing the match. I don't really see what else he could have done, we went out there, dominated possession, created chances and even created a goal that was disallowed (and hit the post twice). Sometimes you're just out of luck, Kenny can't be blamed for anything last night other than playing Carroll, but he has to play Carroll so he can try and get some form, so even then it's harsh having a go over that. I know you're baiting, but recently we've been in some really decent form, although we probably should have won a few home games, we weren't getting beat and we were playing alright football.
Nah, he didn't have a good game. Every minor call seemed to be going Fulham's way, i.e. if they had a quick pull or push on our player, it would be play on, if we touched their player it was a foul. The call for Charlie Adam's penalty claim was 50/50. People say "the initial contact was outside of the box", but, IMO, it is when the player goes down that should be the rule. What if a player pulls a player's shirt as he's going into the box, then trips him when he's a yard in, does the ref pull it back because the initial contact was outside of the box? Adam was clearly denied a goal scoring opportunity and from the replay in front, looked like he only began to lose his footing as he was inside/on the line of the box. I'm pretty sure the rules state on the line = penalty.
That's so ridiculous I can't believe you mean it, seriously, the decision should be made on where they land? What if a player is tugged back on the halfway line and he doesn't go down until penalty area, is that a pen? where do you drawe the line on far a player can travel before going down? stupid suggestion. They do, as far as I know, however last night there wasn't a debate because it wasn't on the line it was clearly before he got to the box or near the line so the free kick was the right call.

The problem with the Dempsey call is, in pretty much any other league in Europe, what he done is a red card. If Bellamy went down holding his face, he would probably have walked, purely because it was excessive aggression without reason. The ref booking Bellamy shown he had no clue how to officiate the situation, so he took the easy way out. To us, we'd say "well done ref, he used common sense", but I guarantee you, if you watch the CL, if you watch the Euro's next summer, players will walk for much less than what Dempsey done. Simply put, you cannot make any form of contact with a player when confronting him, so when you aggressively square up to someone and persist with it even when they pull away, the ref should really have took a stricter view, but he was saving that for later.
You really want to see someone sent off for that or you want to see some common sense used and the referee award a booking and a ticking off? I think it was a good call, in any European league it probably would be a red card but that would be because the opposing player would've thrown themselves to the ground writhing in agony for nothing at all. It'd be judged on the reaction of the player and not the offence which isn't the way to deal with things. It'll happen in the Euro's because European players will throw themselves about when there's fook all wrong with them. Of course he didn't take the easy way, he saw a situation and he dealt with it. I'd much rather he dealt with it the way he did than start issuing red cards. Just because it's done in Europe doesn't make it right.

Suarez had a goal disallowed which I feel was onside, their defender's foot kept him onside, whilst it's alleged strikers have an advantage, yet we didn't get that, of course.
Agreed.

For Spearing's red card, well, IMO it was up there with Rodwell's for baffling. I'm sorry, but you simply can't send somebody off for how it looks. When you see the replays, Spearing's right foot goes in and clears the ball, it's not even a tackle, it's a clearance, so that foot can't be considered high. His left foot seems to raise after Spearing slides, but it is clearly out of the way and no forceful contact is made with either boot. If we're giving straight reds for following through, we may as well make the eventual step and outlaw all sliding tackles/blocks/challenges, as referees are clearly oblivious to the rules and seemingly get the red card out for anything done at a remote speed.
Agreed. It wasn't a red card I don't think because the contact is made after the ball is won and as it's the follow through so there's no way Spearing can get out of the way and it become inevitable there will be contact. I think Friend can be defended for making the decision with the speed Spearing goes in and he has to instantly decide if it's dangerous or not but that's a debate we'll never agree on.

As for what we'll do in January, I really don't know. It's not Carroll's fault he doesn't fit, but he doesn't even look like he's trying to fit that much. I remember watching him for Newcastle, defenders would bounce off him, every ball was chased to the corner flag, every cross was attacked with John Terry-esque bravery. He never had the greatest ability, but the physical threat he posed was immense for them. Since he's been with us, he's shown that in minor glimpses. On set plays, he's often flat footed, he can't get involved in link up play due to lack of mobility, ability and general vision. He's seemingly become soft, he falls over every time a defender is near and his movement in the box is generally depressing. I really wanted Carroll to work out, I felt like his physical tools combined with Suarez's ability would have made one of the league's most feared partnerships, but at the moment, it's Suarez doing all the hold up play, Suarez going shoulder to shoulder with defenders and Suarez making everything happen. Maybe things will suddenly click for Carroll, but I fail to see where the sudden burst of pace will come from, the sudden agility or the sudden ability, he's not 18, he should be nearly there. If we can find a striker for a decent price in January, I'd probably have a punt and bring him in straight away. We've spunked a load of money this summer to get to the top 4, although I did feel it was a big ask, the club will probably strive to improve again in January if we can't put teams away. I'd like to bring in somebody young, but if there's no value in young players, I'd ask CSKA how much Doumbia's going for, as he's probably the best forward outside of a major league, and probably the best forward from Africa at the moment.
Probably quite a lot, January always seems to infalte prices and it tends to be more difficult to bring players in, quality ones anyway. Most Russian clubs don't need the money anymore so the days of buying players a knock down prices are gone. That said if the player wants the move it seems to happen more times than not. I still think Carroll should be given time, at least this season to come into his own, it wasn't that long ago Lucas was disliked by majority of fans, now them same fans are devastated at his loss. There's still time for him to become a decent player, whether he'll ever be a £35m player is debatable but he could easily be a good player. Someone's needed quicker than that though, goals are at a premium when teams like City and Spurs seem to score at will, even Arsenal are putting them away although with Gervinho off to Africa in January and RVP could hit an barren spell that could end as quick as it arrived.
From what I seen last night: Spearing's challenge was not a red card, but it was given and you have to deal with it. The surrounding of the referee was utterly ridiculous. Senderos was very lucky not to be sent off himself. Ref had a shocker, no doubt, but unlike Sad Act, I'm not going to blame him for my team's loss. It was our own fault, we had chances to score and they were not taken. Starting to lose patience with Carroll now. Was a shadow of the performance we put in 6 months ago in the same fixture.
As for Suarez, I can't help but be embarrassed for him. I wish he would just focus on his football rather than trying to fall over at every opportunity. And as for the gesture at the end......well I can only say what a complete and utter gobshite he is. He's already up on a charge for alleged racial abuse, giving the bird to opposing fans is hardly going to help his cause.
And as for Dalglish, it's at that point where I just can't listen to his pre and post match interviews anymore. It's so monotone, slow, lumbered, like he can't be bothered. There is no passion in his voice for the club, and he seems to be starting a blame culture now. Was really suprised last night that he didn't focus on the ref and blame him for the defeat.
Strange quote from Dalglish after the game regarding the red card:
"It's not Spearings fault the opposition player got in the way of the challenge."
Anyone?
8 LFC players surrounding the ref after the red card as well. Didn't Chelsea get charged for this earlier in the season? Add on the standard 2 game ban for swearing for Suarez and it's not been a good evening for LFC.

Really good post. I agreed with everything apart from the referee having a shocker, red card aside he done well for me. Nice to see a red condem Suarez rather than jump to his defence, like most do. He's got the attributes to be a really top player in this league but he needs to cut the play acting out.

Neither could Woy... but y'know, not a Gobsh1te legend so he was in for it. For some reason, Liverpool are still big news, when were Liverpool last consistently successful? Liverpool are nothing more than another also-ran team now, like your Newcastle's and Spurs', and it'll be another season finishing outside the top 4 for them. Some people, media and particularly the fans seem blinded by past glories...
