Suarez is a very good player, i don't think anybody with sense would deny that, and i'd probably agree with Roddy on his top 3, but you'd have to say RVP is top striker right now, though i think Suarez has a better all-round game than RVP

The reason people think Liverpool should be competing, is because the media constantly forces it down every fan's throat that Liverpool have spent X million to compete, so if they don't, it's failure. When you spend money, you gain expectations, when you're one of the biggest earning clubs, you gain expectations.

Thing is, in sport, history plays a massive part of how clubs are viewed and what their expectations should be. Take the LA Lakers in basketball, for example, they have a huge history of success, during the mid-2000's, they hit a dry run and Kobe Bryant was making sounds about leaving to win. The media, fans and even the team's own players expect them to win, so the owners were expected to go out and get the players to make them win, they did and everybody's happy. It's the way of sports, clubs with a rich history of winning will always be expected to live up to the history, you might call it arsey, but that's the way it is.

I don't know why you bring Rooney into these debates when you know I don't rate him as highly as you. He's a good player, but to look at both players individually, I think Suarez is better.

Howcome when it comes to Liverpool it's always someone else's fault? 'We lost on Monday because the of the referee' now it's the media's fault expectations are too high, what about the idiotic fans who believe you'll compete for the league or the top four every season? there are plenty of those about too.

I think this has only really applied since you lot spunked what was it, about £90/95m bringing in Carroll, Suarez, Henderson and Downing. Before then i'd say the expectancy was down to it being Liverpool

What are you on about? The next paragraph I mention history playing a bit part as well. It's not always someone else's fault, many of our fans have unrealistic expectations of the team, but many people seem to take their views as the majority. Any level-headed Liverpool fan will just expect improvement. Many of our fans have hefty expectations because of our past. As I said, over the past 10 years, we've won pretty much every trophy other than the league, that means there's a few generations of Liverpool fans that have grown up watching their team win things, they become used to it and they are usually raised by parents that are also used to it. I'm not saying it's all the media's fault, but the media is by far the biggest voice in getting the 'Liverpool should be winning things', they are the ones that influence people more than anybody.

As for the game the other night, when a game's 0-0, and your team has a goal wrongly disallowed and then has a player wrongly sent off, which completely turns the game, what do you do, Dan, thank the ref and his assistants for a top performance? We should have put the game to bed well before then, nobody will deny that, but when you have legit goals disallowed, it makes the job twice as hard, which is why people complain about officials.
